AU Exchange Letter 2021

Hello, AU Exchange creator! Thank you for writing for me! I'm Mal or Mali (malachiical @ AO3 as well); I'll try to keep each individual section of this letter brief, and you should be able to skip to wherever you like with anchor links and/or just expand the parts relevant to you via cut. I hope our AU ids align and that you have a blast writing, because I'm definitely looking forward to whatever you come up with!

  • I really do love age gaps tbh and find older characters hot & also love when the other characters do... non-Year-One Spidey/Ock seems like it's gotta have an age difference of over 20 years; in SSM I can easily imagine Otto being in his 30s or early 40s while Adrian is in his 60s, and Phineas Mason being in his 50s while Beck is in his 30s and Menken is maybe even in his 20s (I find Chameleon really hard to age); and in Vampire Cleanup Department Chau is probably meant to be in his 40s with Chung in his 70s
  • descriptions of making out tbh
  • trans headcanons where it’s not A Thing in the fic, no coming out or explanations necessary, or it's just accepted and not super dwelled on unless the prompt is about self-exploration. no Having To Deal With Bigotry or issuefic or anything, just character(s) happen(s) to be trans (both same gender/pronouns as in canon and different gender/pronouns are fine)

Crossover Fandom
Entrapta (She-Ra and the Princesses of Power 2018)/Tri-Klops (He-Man and the Masters of the Universe 2002)

Okay, with crossover ships I feel like I definitely need to explain why I am so into them. This one feels almost self-explanatory, though. Entrapta is devoted to science and her friends and worked for the Horde in the past, she's a tech genius and inventor who knows quite a bit about history and magic, too, due to it being important to know these things for science!! While Tri-Klops is also a scientist and tech genius inventor who works well as part of his team... which is the Evil Warriors fighting under Skeletor, and he knows enough about magic to incorporate it in his magitech.

While I don't take the tie-in comics as actual canon (because seriously, Tri-Klops does not seem brainwashed in the actual cartoon), I like the idea that in the beginning he really believed in Keldor's cause and also like Entrapta prefers to use science and tech to learn more things (including with Doomseekers) and help the people he cares about (prosthetics!). They have both built weapons for people who are Going Too Far and they both seem to like lasers. They even have kind of similar-different issues with people, with Tri-Klops seeming to prefer to be alone in his lab a fair amount, at least coming across as somewhat withdrawn and standoffish, while Entrapta has trouble understanding, connecting, and communicating with people sometimes, leaving them both ironically seeming more comfortable around robots than people.

And of course, Tri-Klops is more serious and gruff while Entrapta is so incredibly enthusiastic. But that just means they also have intriguing differences while having a lot in common in other ways. I feel like they'd either love each other or get along like a house on fire, and I decided the most fun option is them being seriously impressed by one another. Even if Entrapta might sometimes be... sorta baffling.

  • ALL: Being in a time loop together leads to getting together
  • All: time loop can only get broken by kissing love interest/confessing their feelings
Okay, look, when I have two scientists I really like time loop prompts. Especially when one of those scientists is like Entrapta and would probably be enthusiastic and find it fascinating! What caused it? Is it magic, tech, magitech? I do love how the lines between magic and technology are blurred especially in She-Ra. For the second tag, do they find out that's how to break the time loop only by chance, or do they (or does one of them) figure it out? For the first, do they have to do anything else in order to resolve the time loop and get things back to normal? And in either case, are they the only two looping or is anyone else? How well did they even know one another before the loop started, anyway; had they been working together regularly, on good terms, kinda competitors, or never even met before they realized they were both looping? (I am also totally okay if it isn't a "real loop" but if they figure out they're stuck in a simulation or another unstable fake reality, so long as they can eventually escape and no one dies!)

  • ALL: canon events are a tabletop role-playing game played by the characters
I know this says "a tabletop role-playing game" but I immediately imagined these two either being friends/roommates/coworkers/whatever playing in two totally different games (that are their canons) and chatting about what happened after sessions, or strangers-at-first who are playing in two separate games at the same location and sorta meet and get to talking through that. I feel like this could be really cute and I am ALWAYS a sucker for this prompt, so please have fun with it! (I'd prefer if Entrapta's player was also autistic and not white, and Tri-Klops's player was also blind, not just the characters, but with anything else go nuts!)

  • ALL: Canon villain is one of the good guys now
  • ALL: Heroes & Villains on the Same Side
  • ALL: Villain turns good
  • ALL: Villain was actually right all along
Basically these tags are just different ways you can play with the fact that Tri-Klops is a part of Skeletor's Evil Warriors in canon. Whatever kind of crossover/AU this is, unless it's a 100% complete setting change AU... and even some of those! One of these could be applicable. If Tri-Klops is "one of the good guys now" or has turned/is turning good, does that mean he used to be an Evil Warrior and isn't anymore, that the Evil Warriors are themselves redeemed/improved, or that Tri-Klops is working with/for the Rebellion? If heroes and villains are on the same side, is there just a bigger bad to team up against (I mean, Horde Prime, MOTU Hordak, the Horde in general), or have the Evil Warriors seen the error of their ways at all, or do they have a point? And what are they working together against? And for "villain was actually right all along," I imagine the easiest way to go about this would be to lean into Skeletor's claim to the throne being legitimate and go with the idea that he wouldn't be a terrible ruler if he did get the throne and that he wouldn't be bad, might even be good, for Eternia. You wouldn't even have to villainize Randor or the Masters, there's just a lot of stuff they don't know and Skeletor went kinda nuts for a while. Just feel free to play around with any of these if you like!

  • ALL: Interesting people you meet in prison
OH BOY THIS PROMPT. This is just a fun prompt. What prison do they meet in, an Etherian prison or an Eternian one or other? What did either of them do to get put in there? Or is only one actually a prisoner and the other either poking around in there or doing a jailbreak? Or if the two worlds are kind of melded together maybe the Rebellion's captured both of them (these are the jail cells...?) or the Eternian Palace has (okay, these are jail cells) while Entrapta was still with the Horde, even. Have fun with this one, I just enjoy this whole concept!

  • ALL: Masquerade balls are the normal way of finding a partner
Look, Princess Prom made me feel things, okay? And one thing it made me feel was that that elaborate partner-trading "first dance" was SO GOOD and I wish we could've seen Entrapta dance too! It seemed to be a very codified dance so I bet she memorized all of it like Adora did. Clear instructions. That's slightly besides the point, which is that I now long for an AU where there are dances on Etheria that occur more often than every ten years where you get a chance to find your partner! (Just through choosing someone? Through magic? Via dancing with people???) And either an AU where the two canons are fused together or Tri-Klops is AU'd into being an Etherian. I'm just a big sucker for masquerades and for dancing. And for weird scientists bonding at a dance that isn't exactly their speed though at least Entrapta enjoys the social experiment.

  • ALL: Pokemon Snap AU
  • ALL: Pokemon Trainer AU
I just love Pokemon AUs! For a Pokemon Snap AU I can so easily picture Entrapta being SO ENTHUSIASTIC about research and new tech to go out in the field and NEW PHENOMENONS; are these two working together (new or established), working on similar things but in different places and either communicating or just reaching out to each other for the first time, or is Tri-Klops part of some team that Makes Trouble but they wind up bonding over science and tech anyway? And I know the second tag says Pokemon Trainer AU specifically, and I'd be happy to see them both as Pokemon trainers, but I'd be equally happy to see them as scientists, engineers, Professors, making stuff like Silph Co. does, or maybe Tri-Klops or both of them works for some Bad Team (making trouble or just making tech?). Feel free to give them any sort of Pokemon, but I can easily imagine Entrapta enjoying some mix of tech and science themed Pokemon, adorable Pokemon, and maybe a cute food based Pokemon, and I feel like pretty much all of Tri-Klops's Pokemon would have some sort of eye theme (or be green). Like, I could see Entrapta having one of the Porygon or a Golett and Tri-Klops having a Sigilyph or something from the Duskull line. I could see them both having something from the Magnemite line, too, tbqh (is Entrapta's named Emily?).

  • All: Soulbond - Accidental/Involuntary
Like time loops, this is just another thing I love when it's two scientist characters, especially when one is like Entrapta and would probably be enthusiastic and find it fascinating! What causes it? Is it magic, tech, magitech? Like I said above, I do love how the lines between magic and technology are blurred especially in She-Ra. Is it a complete surprise where they have to figure out what's even going on, or is this an AU where it's known to happen sometimes? Do they figure out a way to fix it or is that impossible; do they just have to live with it? What do soul bonds even entail: a telepathic bond, an empathic bond, shared dreams, shared sensations, a need to be in proximity to one another, a need to touch, a need to have sex? Do they know one another well beforehand or not, was one or both of them interested beforehand or not?

  • ALL: Superheroes/Superpowers
I couldn't resist, this one's just fun! Characters in their canons already basically have superpowers, or at least they could easily be translated directly into being superpowers or super-tech! Obviously Entrapta's hair as a power and tech skills in general translate directly across; with Tri-Klops you could go with him either making the visor to see and fire lasers like in canon or go with him being blind without the visor because he just naturally has eye lasers and the visor lets him control them (and also enhances his vision in other ways). I wouldn't mind if you handwaved and made them both superheroes, or both supervillains, but it'd also work really well to have Entrapta as a superhero (albeit maybe usually a distracted one) and Tri-Klops a supervillain! Do either of them swap sides or just get distracted working on SCIENCE together?

  • Crossover: Character AU'd into different canon setting
  • Crossover: character crosses into different canon
  • Crossover: Permanently stuck in other character's universe
  • Crossover: Shared Universe AU
These tags are basically "how does this crossover work?" and you can go with whatever you like! I like all of these. For the first, you could have Tri-Klops be a native Etherian, either a member of the Horde or working for/with the Rebellion, or you could have Entrapta be a native Eternian, probably off on her own somewhere not affiliated with either team at first but getting scooped up by whoever finds her/whoever she finds first! For the second and third, both canons have dealt with dimensional portals, so either Entrapta or Tri-Klops could cross into the other's canon (either alone or with a group, by accident or on purpose), and it'd be really neat to see what they make of it! And finally, well... "Shared Universe AU" could mean a world that's a mix of Eternia and Etheria, and that could be fun, but you could also easily make it legit a shared universe and just have Eternia and Etheria be planets in the same dimension (well, now that Etheria is out of Despondos). MOTU namedrops Despondos, She-Ra namedrops Etheria and Grayskull, MOTU's Hordak could be another Horde Clone who got away from the Horde (on purpose or not) and learned magic and made himself look like that on purpose, the First Ones might have also made Adam's sword... Heck, Eternia could also have been made into a weapon. Fun possibilities!! I am really excited to see what you do with any of these, so go nuts!

  • Crossover: Characters turn out to be highly compatible
Okay, this one's just straightforward, honestly. I really think they would! For all their differences they've also got similarities, particularly shared skills and interests, that I think could really make them click. And both of them seem like the sort to really appreciate any shared interest or communicated appreciation or impressed-ness. This tag could, I hope, go with any of the others!

  • Crossover: Villain from one fandom is causing trouble in another fandom
There are a lot of possibilities for this one! An AU where She-Ra's Hordak successfully opened a dimensional portal or Etheria came through but Horde Prime didn't show up, and Hordak is causing trouble on Eternia somehow/for some reason. A scenario where Horde Prime is targeting Eternia (as well as or instead of Etheria) and maybe EVERYONE has to work together to stop him. A scenario where MOTU Hordak is causing trouble for Etheria, either while they're still in Despondos (and Tri-Klops/the Evil Warriors wound up there for some reason?) or if Hordak managed to get out when their planet did. A scenario where Skeletor managed to bring the Evil Warriors to Etheria and is causing trouble but Tri-Klops winds up bonding with Entrapta anyway! Hell, King Hiss or Marzo could be causing trouble on Etheria or the First Ones could be threatening Eternia (maybe their planet is a weapon too!)... There's a lot of possibility here.

  • Crossover: The Shimmer (Annihilation film) appears in another canon’s setting
The Shimmer is just SO fuckin cool and interesting and once again I think Entrapta would be fascinated by it and enthusiastic even with all the shit it does/can do! Once again, this is a very scientist-friendly prompt in general, even if this one is... A Lot. I like the idea of these two trying to figure it out and not get absorbed by it (or let that happened to anyone else they may be attached to). Whether it's on Etheria, Eternia, both (are they going back and forth between dimensions?), or if it's an AU where both their planets are kinda blended together, the Shimmer just shakes up everything, interrupts anything that might have been going on beforehand, and is just so neat that I can see how Entrapta at least might find it fascinating!

Canon-Specific DNWs

  • presenting Tri-Klops as pure evil/irredeemable
Canon-Specific Likes

  • noncanon background pairings I actually enjoy if they happen to come up: Whiplash/Mer-Man, Trap Jaw/Whiplash, Beast Man/Mer-Man, Sy-Klone/Roboto, Stratos/Buzz Off, Mekaneck/Buzz Off, Mekaneck/Ram Man, Perfuma/Huntara, Adora/Catra/Glimmer(/Bow), Double Trouble/Wrong Hordak, Baker/Busgirl/Soda Pop, Horde Clone OC/Horde Clone OC
  • NAMES. REAL NAMES. PET NAMES. do they just call one another Entrapta and Tri-Klops? does Tri-Klops ever call her princess, when, why? does he ever tell Entrapta his real name is Trydor, and does she ever call him that? she doesn't seem like she usually gives nicknames or pet names; does he ever say anything like "sweetheart" or the like? I am so into all of this.
  • if you're interested, I like trans headcanons for these characters! I like the idea of Entrapta as a trans woman, but nonbinary is good too! anything is fine for Tri-Klops; trans woman is kind of appealing but nonbinary or trans man are also good! as for any other characters that show up, I'd prefer if the female characters were kept female, whether cis or trans (with the exception of Baker and Busgirl, who I'd be happy to see as nonbinary!), but feel free to make any of the male characters trans men, trans women, or nonbinary, and I quite like the idea of Wrong Hordak being nonbinary or a trans woman. and of course trans headcanons aren't at all obligatory!

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (2002)
Mekaneck/Tri-Klops
Trap Jaw/Tri-Klops

I really like Tri-Klops, I won't lie. I love how in the one episode where Skeletor's enough of a jackass to him that he considers betraying him and taking over without him, it takes him a super long time to be like "wait a minute I don't need Skeletor!" despite him being kind of a genius. I love the potential that he joined up with Keldor because he honestly believed in what he was trying to do, and things just got worse after Keldor became Skeletor and he's gotten more frustrated and cynical. I love that he made his own visor to allow himself to see at all and added three increased sight options and lasers, and I love how he saved Trap Jaw's life by making his prosthetics. I love how well he fights with the rest of the team and how he makes practically alive little robots and incorporated bullshit magitech into his inventions!

Speaking of Trap Jaw... I also love Trap Jaw. He's tough, and he can be pretty sharp despite being more brawn than brains, and he's one of Skeletor's most loyal. And when I say I love that Tri-Klops made Trap Jaw's prosthetics and saved his life, wow do I love that. I could imagine those two being close beforehand or only getting really close after, maybe due to Trap Jaw needing to get regular check-ups and learn how to do his own maintenance for a while. The idea that maybe Trap Jaw is more welcome in Tri-Klops's lab than most other people due to that experience makes me happy. The idea of Tri-Klops really caring about him makes me happy, as does the idea of Trap Jaw feeling grateful, paying attention to the things Tri-Klops likes and making an effort to do/get them for him, maybe even considering that he's living in overtime now and if he needed to sacrifice himself to save Tri-Klops, well, Tri-Klops saved him years ago, he got extra time. (I also love how dorky they both are, how Tri-Klops laughs as Trap Jaw's dumb joke in the Stinkor ep, how even when Tri-Klops snaps at him in the Of Machines and Men episode Trap Jaw reaches out to try to help him!)

I also love Mekaneck, and how he is deep-down good and loyal but also seems kind of unhappy and maybe even a little distant from the other Masters (except apparently Ram Man?). He isn't totally certain of his own use sometimes, and he has his own major prosthetics that pretty blatantly saved his life from something. He also just has this hilarious fight moment in the very first episode that I swear comes across to me like he and Tri-Klops are flirting with each other. The showy weapon twirls are completely unnecessary, boys. I love the idea that those two sort of flirt-fight on the battlefield and might be intrigued by one another despite not speaking; if they had an excuse to, well, I like the idea that Mekaneck might be a bit younger and earnest and idealistic while obviously not being a child or anything but Tri-Klops definitely having passed out of that stage but maybe... being reminded of how he used to be, maybe even connecting with it a little again.

Of course, in AUs, these situations might well be very different, but that's what I enjoy about their characterizations and dynamics, if you want to play with them or carry them across!

I just really like mirrorverse stuff in canons like this one! You could do straight-up "King Randor is the evil king while Keldor/Skeletor is the noble rightful prince who is fighting to free Eternia of his unjust rule thing," or you could go with "before the series starts Keldor succeeded in his bid to take over the throne and it turns out he's legit a good ruler, and the series is now Randor pissed and sending his people to attack instead." If Tri-Klops/Mekaneck I'd love to see Mekaneck having some doubts, but just plain spymaster-vs-spymaster stuff could be fun! Maybe Mek is even the more cynical one while Tri-Klops is still idealistic, or maybe they still have the same dynamic but different sides. If Tri-Klops/Trap Jaw (or just if Trap Jaw shows up in general), maybe Tri-Klops saved Trap Jaw's life from one of the Masters with those prosthetics, or maybe Trap Jaw is still Kronis; either way it'd be nice to see them trusting each other a lot. In either case I love the idea of Tri-Klops using his inventing skills to make not just weapons but stuff that's useful for the kingdom and its people, like farming/irrigation equipment, communications equipment, and prosthetics.

  • ALL: Being in a time loop together leads to getting together
  • All: time loop can only get broken by kissing love interest/confessing their feelings
Science, magitech, or just magic? Is the time loop something Tri-Klops can figure out and figure out how to stop or do they just need to hunt down whatever's causing it and stop it that way? Are the two in the ship the only two that are looping, or is anyone else? For the second tag, do they find out that's how to break the time loop only by chance, or do they (or does one of them) figure it out? For the first, do they have to do anything else in order to resolve the time loop and get things back to normal? If it's Tri-Klops/Mekaneck, is this the first time they've worked together or really interacted outside of battle, or have they cautiously spoken, or have they been having sex while denying any deeper feelings? For the first tag, if it's a person or creature causing the time loop, do they have to kill them or does Mekaneck calm/talk them down? Time loop stuff can be dramatic or ridiculous, feel free to go in any direction with this so long as they get together!

  • ALL: Bodyswap
Do only the two people in the ship swap, or just one of them with someone else, or is it more than just them? Do they swap with one another or different people? For Tri-Klops/Mekaneck, have they interacted outside of battle at all? Does Mekaneck get swapped with one of the other Evil Warriors, or like Kobra Khan, and go to Tri-Klops for help? Does Tri-Klops get swapped with one of the Masters or a random person at the palace and Mekaneck figures it out/finds out but agrees to keep his secret until they figure out how to get him switched back? Or do they swap with one another and agree to keep it a mutual secret until they can get their own bodies back? For Tri-Klops/Trap Jaw, do they swap with one another and have to get used to how the others' bodies and prosthetics work? Do a bunch of the Evil Warriors swap around and they're all just trying to deal with it and figure out how to fix it? Does one or both of them switch with any of the Masters? There are a lot of fun ways you could take this!

  • ALL: canon events are a tabletop role-playing game played by the characters
Honestly, MOTU is kind of a silly D&D game already! Whether their group is a mix of people playing both the Evil Warriors and the Masters (for either ship), or the group is actually just playing the Evil Warriors (for Tri-Klops/Trap Jaw), both these ideas are really cute. Do they know each other outside the game before playing (friends, roommates, coworkers, something else?) or is it how they met? Does one of them sort-of flirt IC in order to actually flirt OOC? Is there no IC flirting but they get to talking more and more out of character or the game lets them see another side of each other and they start falling for each other? I feel like this could be really cute and I am ALWAYS a sucker for this prompt, so please have fun with it! (I'd prefer if Tri-Klops's player was also blind, not just his character, but with anything else go nuts!)

  • ALL: Canon had an unreliable narrator
  • ALL: Villain was actually right all along
I imagine the easiest way to go about this would be to lean into Skeletor's claim to the throne being legitimate and go with the idea that he wouldn't be a terrible ruler if he did get the throne and that he wouldn't be bad, might even be good, for Eternia. You wouldn't even have to villainize Adam or the Masters or even Randor necessary (though I don't mind if you do make Randor the villain), there's just a lot of stuff they don't know and Skeletor went kinda nuts for a while. Or maybe the reports of Skeletor's evil have been greatly exaggerated due to Adam's POV being biased and/or Randor lying! For Tri-Klops/Mekaneck, I can potentially see Mekaneck eventually finding out the truth and either wanting to tell the others or questioning his involvement/the side he's on, but maybe not wanting to hurt his friends either. Or maybe outright switching sides! For Tri-Klops/Trap Jaw, I just like the idea of shipfic set in that kind of universe, where they're not evil and are even on the right side. Maybe that's why they keep fighting for Skeletor even as he gets more unhappy and erratic (if that's true), why Trap Jaw does even after whatever happened to get him that injured. (If you do end up making any of the Masters straight-up villains, maybe that injury is because one of them was really brutal in a fight or something.) TL;DR I like reframing things to imagine the villains as the good guys all along and I don't mind if the canon heroes are just mislead or if they're the bad guys, so have fun!

  • ALL: Changeling: The Lost AU
OH BOY I LOVE CHANGELING AUS. I'm good with this being a "canon divergence" fusion where the two characters in the ship (and maybe other characters, but maybe just them) are taken by the True Fae and have to escape and lean on each other after, maybe even have to work together to escape. I'm also good with this just being a straight-up AU where instead of the Evil Warriors they're just a motley that forms after their escapes from Arcadia, or instead of the Evil Warriors and the Masters they're two Courts (or just members of) a freehold that sort of oppose/disagree with each other but aren't "heroes and villains," or if it's just those two just forming a little motley/partnership of their own post-escape! I'd love to see what kiths and seemings you give the characters; I don't have any preferences, though I'm far more familiar with 1st edition than 2nd edition!

  • ALL: Character and enemy must work together to save the world
Okay, admittedly this is a bit easier with Tri-Klops/Mekaneck. That said, you could also make it so either Tri-Klops and/or Trap Jaw has to work with literally any of the Masters, or even Skeletor and the Evil Warriors have to work with He-Man and the other Masters in general, and Tri-Klops/Trap Jaw happens then. Against King Hsss again? Against Hordak? Against a different enemy or a threat that isn't a person at all? Or combine with villain being right/biased hero and make the Council the big bad! Anything you come up with, honestly, could be fun. And if it is just Tri-Klops and Mekaneck that are working together, or Tri-Klops and Trap Jaw working with one or two of the Masters, why is it only them, why don't they tell the others on their sides about the danger (if they even can; are they isolated?), what are they facing?

Like the above, the first of these is a bit easier with Tri-Klops/Mekaneck, but can work for Tri-Klops/Trap Jaw, too... while the second tag feels a bit easier to accomplish with Tri-Klops/Trap Jaw but could also work for Tri-Klops/Mekaneck. For the third option tag, whether it's just Tri-Klops and Mekaneck or if it's a few of the Evil Warriors and a few of the Masters, do they just decide neither of their sides are "right" and either try to fix things together, try to accomplish their own goals, or go off and uninvolve themselves? That last could be how Tri-Klops and Mekaneck wind up on a farm! Or for the farm tag, maybe Tri-Klops and Trap Jaw get fed up with the Evil Warrior thing and decide to have a semi-normal life. Or maybe the "instead" is instead of joining up with Keldor maybe Trydor and Kronis went off together or independently wound up in the same community and started a farm together and fell in love!!! Either of these tags could be super fun.

  • All: Hanahaki Disease AU
I AM HERE FOR THE DRAMA OF HANAHAKI. I admit, my first thought was for either Mekaneck or Trap Jaw being the one having hanahaki for Tri-Klops, but it could also work with Tri-Klops exhibiting the symptoms! With Tri-Klops/Mekaneck, have they maybe been meeting in secret either to fuck or get to know each other (or both)? With Tri-Klops and Trap Jaw, are they friends with benefits or just teammates and friends? Does one of them gets hit with, like, a spell or too close to a magical artifact or plant that gives them the symptoms and it causes their desire for something more to manifest into hanahaki? For the most part I prefer if there's no surgical option (though maybe some attempted magical treatments to ease it or slow it down or attempt to cure it), but as long as no one actually dies I'm good! My exception is with Tri-Klops/Trap Jaw if Trap Jaw is the one coughing up flowers, because I specifically like the idea of Trap Jaw feeling like he's living on borrowed time anyway and being more willing to die than to lose all feeling for Tri-Klops -- maybe especially if Tri-Klops is worried as fuck and doesn't know why Trap Jaw won't just let him operate on him.

  • ALL: Near Fatal Injury Brings Characters Together
Okay, with Tri-Klops/Trap Jaw, I have to admit that I can imagine it being whatever injury did THAT to Trap Jaw. I do love the idea that Tri-Klops made his prosthetics and saved his life, though I don't actually like the "origin" comic that had Skeletor responsible for Trap Jaw's injuries. I'd prefer it to be something else, but it's not a DNW or anything so if you want to run with that idea, go ahead! (Hell, that could be what makes them decide to run off to a farm together, see above.) But this could also be a near-fatal injury in a different circumstance, for either ship. For Tri-Klops/Trap Jaw, is it on the battlefield and one has to save the other, maybe one even took the blow for the other? For Tri-Klops/Mekaneck, does some disaster happen and separate them from their groups and nearly kill one or both of them and they have to help one another?

  • ALL: Soulmarks - appear after your soulmate gives you your first orgasm
Okay this one is just great. With Tri-Klops/Trap Jaw there could've been pining on one or both of their parts beforehand, or they could've just decided to have some fun messing around and then oops what the fuck they're soulmates? Did either or both of them maybe even think they might not have a soulmate? And with Tri-Klops/Mekaneck there's the added complication of them being on opposite sides! Did the sexual tension during their fights finally result in them slipping away to fuck around and then they found out and now they have to deal with this? With either ship there's the question of whether the soulmarks might be possible to hide, but that becomes a much more important concern with Tri-Klops/Mekaneck! I am here for how either ship might have to navigate this revelation.

  • ALL: Weird West AU
For a Weird West AU, I can imagine it being basically like canon except it's set in a Wild West or even Trigun-y sort of setting; the Sands of Fire are already desert-y, maybe the Evil Warriors still live in/by a volcano, even! The general tech level and the magic would still work fine, but giving it a bit of a cowboy/outlaw feel could be fun! (Giving the Evil Warriors some Gung Ho Guns energy could also be fun.) I don't have much to say about this, but seriously, playing with either ship in this kind of setting change AU just in general would be great!

  • ALL: Character Invents Time Travel to Save Dead Loved One
Okay, it's pretty obvious that Tri-Klops would be the one to invent time travel in this scenario. That also implies a whole lot of emotional attachment and determination! Admittedly it's a bit easier to make this work for Tri-Klops/Trap Jaw, since Tri-Klops already saved his life once and it'd be easy to interpret them as close friends if nothing else. (Maybe this is even an AU where instead of saving his life and giving him the prosthetics, Kronis does die and Tri-Klops invents time travel?) But with Tri-Klops/Mekaneck maybe Mekaneck dying makes Tri-Klops realize he's WAY more attached than he thought he was, or you could do an established relationship thing where the time travel element shares more about how they got together? So long as it succeeds and no one is dead by the end of the fic I'll love anything you write for this!

Canon-Specific DNWs

  • presenting Tri-Klops or Trap Jaw as pure evil/irredeemable
Canon-Specific Likes

  • noncanon background pairings I actually enjoy if they happen to come up: Whiplash/Mer-Man, Beast Man/Mer-Man, Trap Jaw/Whiplash (if Mekaneck/Tri-Klops), Sy-Klone/Roboto, Stratos/Buzz Off, Mekaneck/Buzz Off (if Trap Jaw/Tri-Klops), Mekaneck/Ram Man (if Trap Jaw/Tri-Klops)
  • I didn't request it but I'd actually also be happy to receive Mekaneck/Trap Jaw/Tri-Klops; I could imagine Mekaneck and Trap Jaw potentially clicking due to their shared prosthetics and probably-shared near death experiences as well as maybe bonding over caring about Tri-Klops
  • NAMES. REAL NAMES. PET NAMES. do they just call one another Mekaneck and Tri-Klops, or Trap Jaw and Tri-Klops? does Tri-Klops ever call Mekaneck Mek, teasing or affectionate, or does Mek ask him to? do either Trap Jaw or Mekaneck ever call Tri-Klops anything like Tri/Try or Trike? do Trydor and Kronis ever still call one another by those names (or, in an AU, have either of them just kept those names and don't even have the others?) (Kro/Krow is also acceptable); do Trydor and Orius ever exchange real names, do they ever use them? do any of them ever use any terms of endearment like sweetheart or hon or doll or hot stuff or like anything, is it teasing or affectionate? I am so into literally all of this so go nuts!!
  • if you're interested, I like trans headcanons for these characters! for Trap Jaw I kinda like nonbinary but trans man or even trans woman are good; for Tri-Klops, trans woman is kind of appealing but nonbinary or trans man are also good; for Mekaneck anything is fine! as for any other characters that show up, I'd prefer if the female characters were kept female, whether cis or trans, but feel free to make any of the male characters trans men, trans women, or nonbinary! and of course trans headcanons aren't at all obligatory!

How to Survive Camping (Fainting--Goat)
Beau/Kate

Okay, after rereading the entire series I am just craving a more outright shippy take on these two. I want fic bad, whether it's set in the universe of How to Survive Camping with some non-canon events, some tweaks made to the setting, or whether it's an AU that shakes things up more than that.

I love Kate, I love how complicated she is, how she started out pretty ruthless and fucked up and has steadily been getting better, how she's gradually finding a balance in herself and becoming more determined. How she's strong as hell and won't let anyone fuck with her or especially her family, how hard she tries to make things right even if she doesn't always know if she's doing the right thing, even if she's not always doing the right thing. How haunted and cursed she is and how she won't let it stop her despite her fear and anger.

I also love Beau. The Man with the Skull Cup. Sippy Cup Bae. He is such a dick but he's also such a fun dick, and I love how the more we learn about him and his new connection to Kate and what he's trying to accomplish and willing to do, he becomes more interesting and sympathetic -- saving her life multiple times over, declaring allegiance to her despite it making him enemies, nearly dying for her, going against his instincts to help and communicate with her and even just be around her though it brings him physical pain. And then how we learn more and/or he does something and we're reminded that he's very not human and also very, very dangerous and ruthless, whether it's how he killed Kate's cousin or him stabbing her to test her brother.

I love their relationship, not only the above but how Kate will tease him sometimes about the online shippers, how the first thing Kate asked him after it was clear they had a connection due to her refilling his cup was if she'd married him, how mischevious he can be in an almost deadpan way (poisoning only the houses that give out bad candy on Halloween?), how close they draw to each other sometimes in situations where they're both in way over their head and afraid, how she's literally giving him a name and identity. How she actually compares their relationship to that of the old sheriff and his fairy wife. I just want more of that dynamic and also that they actually become a thing and maybe kiss!

  • ALL: Accidental marriage through unintentional magically binding action
You know when Kate had been reading too many of the shippy comments and, after the man with the skull cup said that they were bound together because she'd re-filled his cup, she asked horrified if she'd married him? Yeah, what if that, except that was pretty much exactly the case? Of course, you could also have Kate do something else later that does actually marry them, or switch it up and have Beau do something that oops he accidentally married her, magically speaking. Whatever way you go with it, what would a magically binding marriage to a very not human being entail? What might it do to Kate, what might it do to Beau, what might it do to the land itself, and how might others (humans and other creatures alike) react?

  • ALL: Being in a time loop together leads to getting together
  • ALL: Time loop where character makes things worse before making them better
Weird and frustrating shit happens! A time loop wouldn't even be that strange, let's be real. What's caused it and why? How can they break it? Is it just the two of them stuck in the loop, or is anyone (or any thing) else? Is it just the two of them except they can eventually figure out exactly who or what is causing it because they're the only other thing that's looping with them? What exactly is Kate trying to solve, what happens during the time loop and how does it get worse when she tries to fix/stop it? How does she eventually fix/stop it/make it at least slightly better than it would otherwise have been? I am also totally open for it not actually being a time loop at all, but maybe the two of them being in an other-world like the Grey World or the Hall of the Gummy Bears, or being trapped in their own minds or some kind of dreamscape by a monster kind of like what happened with the hammock monster as it tries to prey on them or just keep them out of the way for a bit.

  • ALL: Canon setting has Silent Hill style Otherworld
  • All: Zombie Apocalypse
  • All: Zombies Without An Apocalypse
  • Crossover: The Shimmer (Annihilation film) appears in another canon’s setting
This are just shaking up the canon world to varying degrees! The Shimmer hitting would be a HUGE change and I'd love to see Kate furiously and determinedly dealing with it just like everything else in her life, refusing to go down and maybe getting some help from a certain someone. A zombie apocalypse would be similarly like, this figures, and of couse she's not gonna die to it -- and would Beau help her? (Would zombies even give a shit about Beau?) Silent Hill Otherworld would be a great addition to the other Otherworlds plaguing her campsite, and I'd love to see what she and Beau might have to deal with in there! And as for zombies without an apocalypse... Well, honestly, that doesn't change up the campgrounds at all honestly. It's just one more thing to show up and make trouble and have to be dealt with, and maybe it's even not an apocalypse because Kate does deal with it and contains it before it can spread. You're welcome.

  • ALL: Character Journeys To The Underworld to Rescue Their Dead Friend
"Friend" is... a word, but there wasn't a more fitting one! Of course I'm imagining Kate going to retrieve Beau; maybe she needs him, maybe she feels like she owes him, or maybe she's attached and really doesn't just want to let this happen, maybe she doesn't want to lose any more people. But maybe Beau goes to retrieve Kate; does he owe her that, or feel like he does, or just still need her, or is he angry because he chose her and he's not thinking about it too in-depth until he's done it? Alternatively, Kate could go to the Underworld to rescue someone else if something happens to them -- the old sheriff, her brother or his wife, Bryan, Turtle... even her uncle and aunt or her parents -- and maybe Beau just falls into step with her... Does she get help from anyone or anything else? What happens? (If it's anyone other than her uncle, aunt, or parents I'd prefer for the journey to be a success, and just don't keep Kate or Beau dead!)

  • All: Character or characters lose their powers
  • ALL: Non-human character is/becomes human
Slightly different tags but both mean the same thing: Something unexpected is happening to Beau! Honestly, the thought that won't leave my head is that something is that even in canon Beau seems to be changing, being affected by his connection to Kate despite himself, and maybe even by the way so many people are thinking of him is sort of... solidifying who and what he is. I feel like this might be incredibly unexpected and that he wouldn't be thrilled with it or know exactly how to handle it, tbh. I don't really need him to become 100% human and mortal; it might even be more interesting if he just becomes... more so. Kind of meeting Kate halfway there. See "Human character becomes/is becoming non-human" a few tags down.

  • ALL: Characters choose to get soulbonded for reasons
  • All: Soulbond - Accidental/Involuntary
Yeahhh, this is kind of like the first tag except a soulbond instead of (or as well as?) magical marriage. For the second basically anything I already said could still be true: What if Kate filling refilling Beau's cup caused a soulbond, either one that occurred quickly or one that maybe is even slowly still forming during the current canon point? Or you could have Kate or Beau do something, or something happen by chance, or even another being do it to them on purpose, that causes a soulbond later! Or, going with the first tag... Do they do this on purpose? To defeat something powerful, to save one or both of their lives, for some other important reason? And to (practically) quote: "Whatever way you go with it, what would a [soulbond] to a very not human being entail? What might it do to Kate, what might it do to Beau, what might it do to the land itself, and how might others (humans and other creatures alike) react?"

  • ALL: Cosmic Horror/Eldritch Abomination AU
Okay, I'll admit it, my first thought was "maybe this is what Beau really is." A strangely (relatively) benign cosmic horror in a human-looking form. That could be a very fun reveal. If you want to just have cosmic horrors exist in general, though, and maybe give Kate or Beau a "Did You Just Punch Out Cthulhu?" moment, that'd also be excellent! I don't have as much to say about this one, but I kinda love it!

  • All: Costumed Vigilante AU
Kate maybe following in her parents'/family's footsteps and being a costumed vigilante, with or without powers, protecting her town or city against the bad guys with her same take-no-shit attitude is just GREAT. The old sheriff could be her Commissioner Gordon! Bryan, with his good doggos, could be another vigilante/superhero! She could be protecting the city from supervillains (maybe ones that resemble the creatures in canon... maybe with her even on somewhat good terms with some like in canon!) or tbh it could be like the campgrounds where she's taking care of the people of this Old City which is full of strange and dangerous beings that she has to fight. But as a vigilante this time. Beau could either still be the man with the skull cup entity or could be, like, a poison-themed villain/vigilante himself. Please have fun with this one becuase I absolutely adore the idea!

  • ALL: Human character becomes/is becoming non-human
Whoo boy, this is kind of the other end of the spectrum from the "Character or characters lose their powers"/"Non-human character is/becomes human" tags. And to be honest, until fairly recently, I thought that the story might even be going in this direction. At one point it was mentioned that humans weren't supposed to be able to kill any of these beings like she's done, and it talked about how the worst year wouldn't end until she was dead but also all the rules change during years like these, and how any of the creatures who wanted to inherit the land would either have to kill her or (if she left) take out everyone else and then Beau suggested she could take out all the creatures she didn't want to inherit... I thought that with the land becoming ancient and her connection to Beau and how she's taking out creatures she might be becoming less human without realizing it yet, "inheriting the land" herself in a way. So I'd love for some plot where that's actually true! Not necessarily for those reasons and in those exact ways, but Kate starting to become something else could be very interesting. Does she hate it? (Probably.) Does she eventually accept it, maybe truly inheriting her own land, or does she find a way to stop or reverse it, maybe with Beau's help? Or do she and Beau maybe sort of meet halfway, if you combine this tag with one of the above tags, with their bond making her somewhat less human and him somewhat more so, but not changing them totally?

  • ALL: In-universe coffeeshop AU
  • ALL: In-universe private investigators AU
  • ALL: Summer Camp AU
Okay, these are tags that shake up canon but not quite the canon world per se. Just the canon itself. Since the first two are in-universe, all that stuff about old land and the creatures that live there and the things that can happen are still a thing, and Beau would definitely still be some being of hospitality! But in one, maybe it's a coffee shop that Kate and her family are running that is plagued with these beings (or the shopping complex/mall they're in is plagued with them, Kate runs the coffee shop and other family members have other businesses?) that she just occasionally has to deal with to keep customers from dying messily, but they just have such great coffee and food. Beau getting people to drink from his skull cup still fits super well, it's great. And with the private investigators, I won't lie, I am still laughing like a hyena at Bonnie Quinn's April Fools post from this year. Obviously that post is purposefully ridiculous and this prompt is also for private investigators, not lawyers, but I am tickled by the idea of an AU that plays with a little of this idea but maybe plays it a bit more straight. Two very different people (well, in Beau's case, "people") who grate on each other taking unwinnable/unsolveable cases, Beau being a very powerful trump card, their somewhat murderous tendencies both coming in handy (though sometimes also being a real problem), "dodging the law on their... alternative... solutions"... and of course romantic tension (or, I mean, some kind of tension), because, yanno. You Gotta. And finally for Summer Camp AU... I imagine Kate even still has the same campground, just. Runs a summer camp. It's like a Camp Crystal Lake situation except instead of a single serial killer who shows up periodically there's like dozens of different weird inhuman beings/creatures that show up all the damn time!

  • All: Post-Apocalypse
Okay, there's a loooot of possibilities for a post-apocalypse. I'd prefer to avoid any kind of (realistic) sickness, but anything else goes, really: Zombies, other monsters, the Shimmer, a Slow Apocalypse, a Mad Max-ish feeling setting, a sort of Fallout post-apocalypse, a bunch of people just disappearing, a robot uprising, kaiju, aliens, meteors, some other sort of natural disasters... The real draw of this for me is that with Kate's sheer drive and how used to shit she is, she'd be totally suited to surviving and apocalypse and making it in a post-apocalyptic world! Whether the world ends after she was camp manager for a bit or she was born into a post-apocalyptic world, even, take your pick. And with post-apocalypse rather than just apocalypse-apocalypse, maybe things have settled down enough so that she'd really like to build a calmer life for herself if possible? To get things at least somewhat under control? I'd prefer for Beau to still be exactly what he is in canon for this one, whether this is a canon-divergence AU or he and Kate somehow meet in the post-apocalypse for the first time!

  • ALL: Snowed in at a Haunted Hotel
This one doesn't really fit so much into "changed canon setting" or "changed canon world" or "changed rules of canon" or anything, at least not exactly. I feel like I'm cheating a little because this might not even be weird enough to be considered an AU, unless you have it so Kate runs a hotel that's on old land or just a haunted hotel that's mostly got a ghost problem (and maybe some other monsters) or something. I would be totally down for that. I'd also be down for some scenario where Beau accompanies Kate for some reason while Kate has to do an important thing out of town and then bam, haunted hotel. Guess she's gotta solve other people's problems now too! And can ghosts possibly threaten even Beau and/or is he going to be important help? LET'S FIND OUT.

  • THESE TWO BEING IMPORTANT TO ONE ANOTHER EVEN IF THEY AREN'T SURE HOW THEY FEEL ABOUT THAT
  • them caring about one another and being drawn to each other even while it hurts Beau to go against his nature and even while Kate is very aware of how dangerous is
  • NAMES ARE SO IMPORTANT TO THIS SHIP LEGIT. if you lean into that I will be so thrilled. Kate calling him Beau is such a huge deal; if she goes back to calling him the man with the skull cup I imagine things are not great between them. (and if she calls him sippy cup bae I imagine she's trying to get on his nerves.) when does he call her "campground manager," when does he not use any name for her at all, when does he call her Kate, and what does that all mean? since names have so much meaning I feel like it really is a big deal between them...
  • if you're interested, I like trans headcanons for these characters. for Kate, I'd prefer she be a trans woman or nonbinary; for Beau I could imagine him either really not having a human conception of gender and being nonbinary or starting out more nonbinary "at birth" but becoming something almost equivalent to a trans man as his identity settles and he starts being seen the same way by everyone (including himself?) as he is by Kate (and the audience). trans headcanons for other characters that may show up are also fine, anything goes there. and of course trans headcanons aren't at all obligatory!

Marvel 616
Otto Octavius/Peter Parker

Ohhh boy I can't even explain in short form how and why I love these two so much. They have thought they worst of each other, they have misunderstood each other, Doctor Octopus has tried to kill Spider-Man (definitely not the reverse). Doctor Octopus has swung between minimal violence, outright saving lives sometimes, and crossing lines that even he knows deep down he shouldn't cross; when saving Spider-Man's life (and those issues I highly recommend for "was this gay on purpose?" feels) he talks up Spider-Man's goodness and how he needs him as his foil at length.

And then eventually they get a much greater understanding of each other in the weirdest way, with Otto Octavius taking over Peter Parker's body, Peter Parker dying in Otto Octavius's body, but not before shoving all of his memories into Otto's head and a piece of his consciousness as well. They basically share a brain for a while! And then when that whole situation goes south, Otto comes back in another Peter Parker clone body eventually, with the real Peter as Spider-Man, and... Spidey actually grants him a clean slate and later even tells him that he's doing the hero thing right.

The way they have so much intense and complicated history really gets to me, but even from early on I really love their potential, so you could go with any point in that history for an AU. Whether you decide to set the story at a point when they're complicated enemies or one where they're complicated allies, there's honestly so much possibility with these two!

(Plus, alternately, if you go with the backstory specifically from Spider-Man/Doctor Octopus: Year One or take it as its own mini-canon, I am totally down for that because they have a, uh, very interesting relationship and Otto has a very specific personality and obsession with Spider-Man that I am HERE for.)

  • ALL: Apocalypse AU
  • All: Post-Apocalypse
In an apocalyptic or post-apocalypse situation, honestly, I feel like superheroes and supervillains both would be more equipped to survive than most civilians! I also feel like it's a great scenario to make two opposing sides realize there are more important things and to prompt at-first-wary, then less so, truces. I'm also good with this taking place while Doctor Octopus was acting as a Spider-Man, though, or in the timeline of Year One where the Doctor Octopus thing might even have been a one-off! Or if you wanted you could just do a full AU where Peter Parker and maybe Otto as well were born into a post-apocalyptic world! As for what the apocalypse even is/was, I'd prefer to avoid any kind of (realistic) sickness, but anything else goes, really: Zombies, other monsters, the Shimmer, a Slow Apocalypse, a Mad Max-ish feeling setting, a sort of Fallout post-apocalypse, a bunch of people just disappearing, a robot uprising, kaiju, aliens, meteors, some other sort of natural disasters... Nuclear apocalypse actually feels like it could be the most fitting for Year One, too, sadly. And with post-apocalypse rather than just apocalypse-apocalypse, maybe things have settled down enough so that things are a bit calmer and they're even working together to try to rebuild? Or during the apocalypse itself, maybe they're working together to try to survive, even trying to help some other people survive?

  • ALL: Being in a time loop together leads to getting together
  • All: time loop can only get broken by kissing love interest/confessing their feelings
What's causing the time loop? Is it another supervillain, someone with powers who can't control them, some sort of artifact or magic thing or curse, some out of control technology? For the second tag, do they find out that's how to break the time loop only by chance, or do they (or does one of them) figure it out? For the first, do they have to work together to do anything else in order to resolve the time loop and get things back to normal? And in either case, are they the only two looping or is anyone else? Are they trying to accomplish anything in the loop, either at odds or working together or first one and then the other? What was their relationship like when the loop started; were they enemies, occasional wary allies, both acting as Spider-Man, or post Spider-Ock after he threw away the suit but he hasn't actually caused any supervillain trouble again yet? Or is it set during Year One; is the loop maybe even the original Doctor Octopus Event where they're both desperately trying to "get it right" (whatever that means) and wind up bonding, or does it happen while Otto is in Ravencroft after? (I am also totally okay if it isn't a "real loop" but if they figure out they're stuck in a simulation or their own minds or some kind of shared dreamscape, either with something trying to prey on them or just keep them out of the way. Just so long as they can eventually escape and no one dies!)

  • ALL: Canon Character Death Evaded
There are a few canon character deaths this could refer to, phew. A few of my favorite ideas: In those aforementioned "was this gay on purpose?" issues where Doctor Octopus saved Spider-Man's life and then got killed by Kaine, what if Spider-Man follows Doc Ock because he can't just let it go and wants to talk it out/maybe convince him to stop fighting and he winds up saving Otto's life in return? Or right before the Superior Spider-Man stuff, what if Spider-Man finds out that Doctor Octopus is dying and figures out a way to cure him/stop it from happening? Or while they've first swapped bodies, what if Peter gets through to Otto earlier and they work together to a)switch back and b)keep Otto from dying? Or at the end of the first Superior Spider-Man arc, what if instead of just sacrificing himself and fading away, Otto either cedes control over to Peter and then after Peter saves Anna Maria they figure out how to get Otto into a body of his own (...or they just body-share...), or they get Otto into a body of his own so Peter can go save Anna Maria/maybe they work together to do so? (Doctor Octopus has died a lot.) In any of these cases I can see this shaking up their relationship, which could be a lot of fun!

  • ALL: Canon setting has Silent Hill style Otherworld
I don't have a lot to say about this one, but I would just LOVE to read about both of them having to deal with what Silent Hill throws at them specifically, whatever it is! Whether the Otherworld has been there all along in NYC, or an Otherworld just sorta manifests there (maybe a cult or a supervillain does something to cause it?), or they both wind up in a place that has the Otherworld, I want them to get stuck there together and have to work together to survive! Whether this is set when they're enemies, when they're both Spider-Man, after Otto throws away the suit but before he resurfaces, or in a Year One context maybe even while Otto is still in Ravencroft, I want the trauma and struggle to survive in Silent Hill to make them bond. AND MAYBE KISS.

  • ALL: Canon villain is one of the good guys now
  • ALL: Character and enemy must work together to save the world
  • ALL: Heroes & Villains on the Same Side
Two of these tags could easily be set while Otto is also being a Spider-Man, but they don't have to be! I would be happy with you redeeming Doctor Octopus in a non-Superior Spider-Man way or just having him work with Spider-Man against a mutual threat! Heck, for the last tag I'd be open to Spider-Man working with the Sinister Six against a threat, tbqh. I would also be totally down for an AU where, after Doctor Octopus claims he can't be a hero and throws away the Spider-Man suit, he then just holes himself up and doesn't go back to supervillainy, either, and Peter hunts him down and tries to talk him around and it eventually even works but they get closer in the process than either expected... And for any of them, you could set things during or right after Year One, and just assume that Otto does still have goodness in him or even that the Doctor Octopus supervillainy lashing out was a one-off and have him redeem!

  • ALL: Character Journeys To The Underworld to Rescue Their Dead Enemy
  • ALL: Near Fatal Injury Brings Characters Together
Look, these two being a little too tied up in one another is my JAM. Spider-Man often risks himself to save even his villains' lives (and that's the way I like him written best tbh!), and Doctor Octopus has saved Spider-Man's life at least once. I could see either of them taking a trip to the goddamn underworld for the other! Feel free to make up a death for either, or have Spider-Man go after Kaine kills Doctor Octopus or after Otto disappears from his mind at the end of Superior Spider-Man, or have Ock go after Peter dies in his body at the beginning of Superior Spider-Man, or have Ock go to the underworld for Peter instead of what canonically happens in those two issues where he saves Peter's life! As for a near-fatal injury, I love the idea of some fight going very wrong, whether they'd initially been fighting one another or been against a mutual enemy, and some accidental injury shaking them both up, or one taking a blow for the other and rattling their relationship! This could be while they're enemies or while they're both acting as Spider-Man or after Year One where Otto's either newly Doctor Octopus or not even quite a supervillain and not sure what he wants to do anymore!

For the first tag, was it intended to be a temporary soulbond, or was it meant to save one of their lives somehow? For the second tag, what caused it, how did it happen by accident, do they try to break it and can they or not? (I'm fine either way, I just want it to definitely bring them closer and change their relationship!) (I'm also fine with it being because they'd shared a body but it could also be for any other reason! Looking at Year One, could the nuclear energy seemingly connecting them be reworked into a soulbond?) For the third tag, is Doctor Octopus sentenced to death but Spider-Man volunteers to soulbond to him (temporarily or permanently?) to keep it from happening, or was Spider-Man captured and nearly killed by some other supervillain until Doctor Octopus intervenes? The fourth tag can go with any one of these or any other soulbond situation you can think of, tbh, I just kind of love the idea of Otto getting Spider-Man's powers and Peter having to teach him how to deal with it. (I did love Ock's realization that Spider-Man was holding back every time he fought... and the one issue that shows the first time Spider-Man felt his spider-sense and it was SUPER ALARMING AND DISORIENTING.) For any of them, what symptoms come with it? A telepathic bond, an empathic bond, shared dreams, shared sensations, a need to be in proximity to one another, a need to touch, a need to have sex? I am good for anything there!

  • ALL: College/University AU
This could be a full mundane AU where Peter Parker doesn't have superpowers and isn't a superhero and maybe Otto Octavius has the arms but not all the time, isn't fused to them, and isn't a supervillain. Or it could be an AU where Peter Parker gets bitten while a university student and Otto Octavius is one of the professors there when he becomes Doctor Octopus. Or it could be an AU of Year One where Peter is a bit older and attending the same university as Otto, either mundane or not -- you could even AU that Otto doesn't get snapped up by the Defense Department! In any of these cases, they could be fellow students, or Otto could be one of Peter's professors, or Otto could be Peter's mentor, or just someone Peter looks up to/is inspired by! (Before things get shaken up with superpowers and get more complicated, if that happens.)

  • All: Hanahaki Disease AU
Okay, I have a real soft spot for hanahaki. Is it a known thing in the universe, a new disease, something common or rare, or does one or both of them get affected by someone's superpower or magic or some magical/alien artifact or alien tech? If Peter has hanahaki, maybe he has to figure out who it's for and once he does, he's determined to not die and so bites the bullet and confesses his feelings; does Doctor Octopus's unwillingness to see him die when he hears about it make him realize he has feelings as well, or did he already know it? I prefer there to be no surgical option, but if you do go with that I think it could be fun if Peter is keeping that as like Plan Z because he's not sure if "not feeling anything for the person anymore" would make it more difficult to fight Doctor Octopus. If Otto has hanahaki, I kind of like the idea that the only possible cure for hanahaki is if the person you're in love with fuckin dies, but he can't actually bring himself to kill Spider-Man or let another villain do so. (Maybe another villain has hanahaki and is willing, or just wants to kill Spider-Man without hanahaki, and Ock saves him despite that just letting it happen could solve his problem?) Or maybe they both have it but don't immediately realize who for, and/or don't realize the other has it for them, or don't realize the other even has it as well at first! In both of those cases I definitely don't want there to be a surgical option. Finally, if set right after Year One, Peter's sympathy for Otto might cause him to try to reach out to him and lead to hanahaki on both or either of their parts, and/or Otto's obsession with Spider-Man might manifest itself as hanahaki! (If it's Peter or both of them, I'd prefer no surgical option; if it's Otto, there can be one but I'd prefer if he was just utterly unwilling to even consider it.)

  • ALL: In-universe coffeeshop AU
Legitimately since it's in-universe I just imagined Peter Parker working at a coffeeshop to bring in money rather than (or as well as!) for the Daily Bugle while also acting as Spider-Man. And then Otto Octavius starts coming in as a customer and Peter's internally like "UH..." because he has definitely fought Doctor Octopus multiple times! Then maybe they start chatting, and Peter's mostly trying to keep tabs on him and also maybe try to figure out what he's planning, but Otto honestly doesn't know this is Spider-Man and is legitimately intrigued by this scientifically very smart young man who's working as a barista and Peter actually winds up warming up to him and enjoying their conversations and they bond... Maybe Spider-Man starts trying to appeal to Doctor Octopus to stop being a supervillain because he really wants to stop fighting him. Maybe they start dating or just fucking while Otto doesn't know and Peter is in wayyyy over his head. ALTERNATELY, if this is set shortly after Year One, maybe Otto walks into the coffeeshop and immediately can tell that the barista is Spider-Man because of that weird connection they have and Peter's internally like "oh shit I fought him and also wait can he really sense who I am?" but Otto is very careful and cautious and doesn't reveal anything in public and maybe he's even legitimately trying to be better and they bond... It could be cute!

  • ALL: Pokemon Snap AU
I just love Pokemon AUs and I COULD NOT resist a Pokemon Snap AU for Spider-Man of all people! Is Peter helping out a Pokemon researcher by going out and taking photos or is he one himself? Hell, is Otto the Pokemon researcher in question (secretly nefarious or not) that Peter is helping out, or helping out the same researcher, or researching Pokemon on his own, or is he part of (or the head of) some team that Makes Trouble or just making trouble all by himself? If either of them also has Pokemon, feel free to give them any sorts, but I can easily imagine Peter having a spider of some type on his team (or a team of spiders?) while Otto has, like, an Octillery or some Psychic Pokemon or something! (Maybe a Malamar instead, even though that's a squid?) Go with whatever Pokemon you like, though. Heck, if you wanted to do some sort of fusion, Otto could still have his arms (making trouble or not) and maybe Peter got bitten by some sort of unique Spinarak/Ariados, Galvantula, or Dewpider/Araquanid and now has some psychic/poison/electric/water-based powers, depending. That could be fun!

  • ALL: Soulmate AU - Like canon except two antagonistic characters abruptly discover they're soulmates
I AM A SUCKER FOR SOULMATES... as you can see by my Soul-2-Soul letter... Seriously, though, I love this. To take some quotes from that letter: "Given that there was a long while in the comics when Doctor Octopus had no idea that Spider-Man was really Peter Parker, Peter could definitely have an 'UH-oh' moment realizing what it means that Otto Octavius is his soulmate while Ock remains unaware that his soulmate and his nemesis are the same person!" "I gravitated to [soulmate's touch leaving color on your skin when they touch you] because I'm imagining it's after a fight and either/both of them are assuming at first that they're just bruised. And then realizing oh, wait, no, shit." "If going with the original meeting from 1963, Peter would just have 'Spider-Man!' written on his skin [even before becoming Spider-Man], and Otto would have 'Hold it, Doc! How about picking on someone who can fight you back?' (Maybe a little concerning...)" "[Soulmates sharing physical stimuli] makes fighting one another more complicated, it makes fights with others gain H/C potential, and the pleasure part makes their bond way, way more intimate than they might otherwise choose." I love the idea of characters seeing color for the first time when meeting their soulmate, too! "I specifically love this scenario because with the way Spider-Man swings and flips and jumps around, it would probably be fucking disorienting to suddenly be seeing in color for the first time while fighting a supervillain and realizing that said supervillain is your soulmate! As for Ock's part... Spider-Man's costume is very colorful and that could itself be quite dazzling." Finally, if you're setting this during Year One, they first met while they weren't antagonistic so maybe they just realize during their fight at the nuclear plant! Does it make Spider-Man go and visit Otto in Ravencroft after?

Canon-Specific DNWs

  • Doctor Octopus being presented as irredeemably crazy/evil
  • permanent character death of any canon characters
  • focus on infidelity (preference is for handwaving Peter not dating anyone, or open relationship stuff, but I know Peter's usually dating Mary Jane/sometimes Black Cat/sometimes someone else so I just don't want focus on cheating)
  • I'd also honestly prefer handwaving away/decanonizing or just not mentioning the whole "May and Otto are exes/were once going to get married themselves" thing!
Canon-Specific Likes

  • nicknames! pet names! I like it when things someone is called in anger or to annoy them at first shift over to being totally normal and then even endearments over time, like Doctor Octopus calling Spider-Man "wall-crawler" or "web-slinger/web-spinner" or "arachnid", or Spider-Man calling Doctor Octopus "Doc," "Ock," or "Doc Ock", but I am also super into exploring moments when maybe one calls the other by their real name, whether "Parker" or "Peter," whether "Dr. Octavius" or "Otto"; is it a threat or is it an appeal or is it intimate?
  • if you're interested, I like trans headcanons for these characters! I can especially see nonbinary Doctor Octopus but trans man and trans woman both totally work for me for different reasons as well; I especially enjoy trans woman or nonbinary Spidey but trans man is also totally acceptable. and of course trans headcanons aren't obligatory!

Marvel 616
Quentin Beck/J. Jonah Jameson

I just love how weirdly tied to Jameson and the Bugle a lot of Mysterio's earliest career and attempts at defeating Spider-Man are! First Quentin Beck pretends to be Spider-Man, then once the Bugle turns the city against him, he sends J. Jonah Jameson specifically a note "saying he could get rid of Spider-Man single-handed" to get a meeting with him and gets Jonah totally on his side to the point of being basically heralded as a hero! Then about 2 years later, after Jameson again turns the people of New York against Spider-Man (unprompted this time), Beck contacts Jameson and the Bugle again pretending to be a renowned European psychiatrist named Dr. Ludwig Rinehart, convincing him that Spider-Man is on the verge of going insane and then proceeding to try to gaslight Spider-Man into thinking he's nuts and revealing his secret identity to him.

The fact that Quentin Beck keeps going to J. Jonah Jameson and the Bugle, and Jonah keeps eagerly helping despite not knowing the score because he just hates Spider-Man THAT MUCH, combined with the fact that in multiple other storylines Jonah has actually created supervillains in an attempt to bring down Spider-Man, makes me think the two could actually get along really well. Especially since Mysterio's crimes, according to some issues of canon, just don't have a body count, and at some points (like in the arc where he's secretly in charge of a nursing home) even his attempts to kill Spider-Man are totally illusory and he's actually unnecessarily protective of innocent people.

Speaking of which, part of why I really enjoy these two is how close to the line both of them are. J. Jonah Jameson is deep down a kind man but is also a little bit willing to compromise his newspaper to take down Spider-Man and even, as mentioned, goes so far as to commission and create supervillains to try to take Spider-Man down. Quentin Beck is a supervillain who is also careful not to actually kill anyone (and is crushed the first time someone accidentally dies during one of his crimes) and who has tried to retire multiple points in his career, who seems mostly to be treating supervillainy as a game. They both hate Spider-Man and neither of them is actually that bad a person, but one of them happens to be a supervillain, and I find that kind of great.

  • All: Trans Character (character's birth sex is canon sex)
  • All: a character is transgender (nonbinary)
  • All: a character is transgender (binary)
  • ALL: Everyone Genderbend AU
Okay look. I can't even explain it but for these two I am very into genderswaps and trans stuff. First, for genderswap/genderbend I am 100% fine with either or both of them being cis women, trans women, or nonbinary. Also, for "everyone/all characters" tags I'm fine if it's just them but I'd also be into it if it was literally everyone! All other supervillains, all other Bugle employees, Spider-Woman, Uncle Mason? Go for it. I am also fine with the ship being M/F, F/F, M/N, F/N, or N/N, so no worries there! I'm also happy for crossdressing in fic and I know Beck does a lot of disguises, but if you write him as a trans man or DFAB nonbinary I'd rather you not write the character disguise as a woman, and if you write the character as a trans woman or DMAB nonbinary I'd rather you not have Beck disguise as a man. That said, feel free to write either of them as a cis woman, trans woman, trans man, or nonbinary. (Also feel free to write me F/F with them with Jonah as a butch lesbian who presents almost exactly the same as in canon sans mustache because goddamn that's hot. But don't feel like you have to go with that one, I just wanted to note it!)

  • ALL: Being in a time loop together leads to getting together
What's causing the time loop? Is it another supervillain, someone with powers who can't control them, some sort of artifact or magic thing or curse, some out of control technology? Do they have to work together to do anything in order to resolve the time loop and get things back to normal? How do they figure it out or does it happen by chance? (I am very okay with the "time loop can only get broken by kissing love interest/confessing their feelings" tag as well, I will admit, but it's not obligatory!) Are they the only two looping or is anyone else? Are they trying to accomplish anything in the loop, separate things or the same thing independently or (at least eventually) working together? What was their relationship like when the loop started; have they not spoken since Beck pretended to be Dr. Rinehart, do they mildly resent or feel wary about each other or are they tentatively approving, have they gotten into contact to try to defeat Spider-Man together or has one of them been considering it? (I am also totally okay if it isn't a "real loop" but if they figure out they're stuck in a simulation or their own minds or some kind of shared dreamscape, either with something trying to prey on them or just keep them out of the way... or one of them but the other got caught up in it. Just so long as they can eventually escape and no one dies!)

  • ALL: Canon villain is one of the good guys now
  • ALL: Character Becomes a Supervillain
  • ALL: Villain turns good
Two very different options! For the first and third tags, you could write Mysterio becoming "good/a good guy" in the sense of becoming a hero, or you could just let Beck retire! He's done less supervillainous stuff before and has even considered retiring at least once in the past, so it wouldn't be unprecendented. Maybe he really does open a special effects academy, or decides he honestly did like running that nursing home, or maybe he finally manages to get back into acting with some indie gigs or local theater stuff. Or maybe Jameson even offers him a job at the Bugle; that also wouldn't be unprecedented, given that he accepted back Foswell after he got out of jail for being the Big Man! For the second tag, well... Jonah's created and worked with enough supervillains, both accidentally and on purpose, that I could really love an AU where he decides he wants to take down Spider-Man so bad that he becomes one himself! Does he get powers somehow and that's what spurs him into it, or does he go to a scientist for powers, or does he commission some tech to use? I'd love to see him and Mysterio working together! Does he seek out Mysterio or does Mysterio seek out [supervillain name] and then go "!" at it being Jameson or does Mysterio realize it's Jameson first and go "!" and then seek him out? Or does he join the Sinister Six, or do they bond in jail/prison, or do they accidentally run into each other and wind up hiding out together? You could do a lot of fun stuff with this and I'd love all of it!

  • ALL: Changeling: The Lost AU
Oh BOY I love Changeling: The Lost AUs! I don't have too much to say about this one. Is it a total AU, with them meeting for the first time in Arcadia and helping one another escape, or them meeting for the first time after escape either in a freehold or just together on their own at first and trying to help one another? Or is it a fusion AU where they get taken from their canon circumstances, maybe even after Mysterio's used the Bugle a few times, and they either escape together or wind up meeting after escape/in the same motley/in the same freehold? I'd love to see what kiths and seemings you give the characters; I don't have any preferences, though I'm far more familiar with 1st edition than 2nd edition!

  • All: Character gets another character’s help that they didn’t get in canon
This tag could mean so many things! Does Beck let Jameson in on his ruse as Dr. Rinehart and therefore not get interrupted before Spider-Man reveals that he's really Peter Parker? Does Beck get Jameson's help during the nursing home ruse somehow? Does he go to Jameson for help, shaken and upset after the bank robbery goes wrong and someone dies during one of his crimes for the first time, wanting to quit and not knowing what to do? Does Jameson help Beck retire in a general sense, or do they decide help one another by working together to take down/unmask Spider-Man?

  • ALL: Character is single parent of a baby or young child
My first thought was legit to just age John Jameson down and have Jonah be a single father, but you could also come up with a different kid and just handwave that he has another! Or you could handwave and give Beck a kid! Either an actual baby/kid (and maybe he is kind of freaked out by the idea that he'll fuck up his kid and be a bad father, due to his own shitty childhood), or maybe the baby/kid is actually an android with super advanced AI that he built because apparently he can do that??? (Basically you could make Misty Beck a baby/infant/little kid that Quentin is planning on "upgrading" into older bodies every so often.) If the child is in fact an android I'd rather they/she still be treated like an actual person, though. ...Either way give me hot "romancing a single parent" action. I am a sucker for a character being a sucker for watching their love interest hold a baby/todder or care for a child.

  • ALL: Character who doesn't have a Superpower in Canon has one or gains one
Strictly speaking, Mysterio has no actual superpowers, so you could give him one! Either an AU where he had one all along or just... give one to him. However, Jonah is also a definite fun possibility! You could combine this with the "Character Becomes a Supervillain" tag (see above) or you could have him become a vigilante (either begrudgingly realizing where Spider-Man is coming from or stubbornly refusing to wear a mask because that's what really sticks in his craw most), or maybe he just contacts Mysterio to work together to unmask Spider-Man and he fully intends to not become a supervillain or a superhero after, just that one thing.

  • ALL: Male character disguises himself as a woman for spy reasons
This might make the most sense with Beck! You could do an AU where he's a spy rather than a supervillain, or you could interpret "spy reasons" as simply having a reason to go undercover. Either way, Quentin is a master of disguise and I am really into Jonah finding him-as-a-woman hot. That said, if you wanted to have Jameson be the one who has to crossdress For Reasons, that could also be VERY GOOD. Does he need Beck's help in order to make it work, even? (Please don't write whichever character is crossdressing as anything other than a cis man if you do this one, unless you're having the character realize she's transfem/a trans woman.)

  • ALL: Secret Identity Is Not Revealed
This could be a very interesting prompt, though the incidents that work best might still need some finagling! When Mysterio first goes to the Bugle to pretend to be a hero and defeat Spider-Man, does Spider-Man just not uncover the trickery; maybe he's even actually defeated and Mysterio gets hailed as a hero and suddenly Beck is honestly into the idea of being seen as a superhero and decides to go down that path? Or does he just get away and it's not revealed that Mysterio is Quentin Beck and maybe Beck goes to Jameson later intrigued by him and flirts without Jameson knowing he's Mysterio? Or is it "Dr. Rinehart" whose identity isn't revealed, at least not in time; does he succeed at finding out who Spider-Man really is? Does he admit to Jonah who he is after or does Jameson ask Dr. Rinehart out and "Rinehart" is flustered and accepts and it gets a little complicated? Or does no one put together that Rinehart is Beck when he's running that nursing home, and does he come to like it enough that he legit retires from supervillainy, and/or does Jameson hear the name at some point and put two and two together and come to see him? Any of these could be incredibly fun!

Canon-Specific DNWs

  • Quentin Beck being written as a purposeful or unrepentant killer, delusional, or just in general "criminally insane" or as irredeemably evil
  • infidelity (just putting this here to specify to just... handwave Jonah not being married or engaged to or seeing anyone else during whatever time the story is set)
Canon-Specific Likes

  • nicknames! pet names! I could really enjoy Jonah and Quentin using kinda cheesy endearments for each other, tbh, like sweet, sweetheart, darling, once they actually become a thing...
  • if you're interested, I like trans headcanons for these characters, especially Quentin but you're welcome to do something with Jonah! anything works for either of them, nonbinary or trans man or trans woman, though Jonah having a son with his wife might mean he's not a trans man. and of course trans headcanons aren't obligatory!

She-Ra and the Princesses of Power (2018)
Double Trouble/Wrong Hordak

So I'll be real, this ship didn't even occur to me until I saw some other fans shipping it recently. It caught my interest and the more I thought about it, the more I really, really liked the idea of them, until I just had to request them! They never even get to meet, but...

While Wrong Hordak is eager for everything he can learn and open with every little emotion he feels, Double Trouble is like the emotional barriers version of the Good Luck I'm Behind 7 Proxies meme. They're both friendly and theatrical in their own ways, and Wrong Hordak becomes more and more confident by the end, but Double Trouble uses lies and money and to keep people at a distance and has an obvious deep cynical streak. Double Trouble literally plays the part of other people while Wrong Hordak mimics other people to learn from them. They both like making people laugh, but Double Trouble also likes making... well, trouble. Oh, and they also both fight Horde Clones by walking up to them looking just like one of them and then shoving them right into trouble, that's fun too.

This has real potential to be in some ways both an opposites attract pairing and a "they actually have a lot in common" pairing. I particularly love the idea of Double Trouble encouraging Wrong Hordak while also being a little overwhelmed by him, but Wrong Hordak as well could be flustered by Double Trouble pretty easily while helping them... connect better with people.

And one thing I keep coming back to with them is the idea that... Wrong Hordak is basically learning how to be a person, but in some ways that could also be true of Double Trouble. Double Trouble keeps up that distance and is so constantly mercenery that they don't really have friends, they seem to always be moving around and not settling anywhere, and it really seems like they spend most of their time being other people. Obviously they love doing this, playing roles! They're a consummate actor and it is their passion. But forming connections to people as themself, and doing normal things as themself, seems very rare. It's a very different way of "learning how to people" than what Wrong Hordak is going through, but it's an interesting one that makes me think they could both be on fairly even footing and help each other out.

  • All: Amateur theatre group AU
  • ALL: Characters are Members of a Theater Troupe
Okay, I first imagined this as theater in the canon setting, so they're still a shapeshifter and a Horde Clone respectively, but that doesn't need to be the case! I do not mind a human AU for this one, whether in a sort of medieval-ish setting like the canon setting without magic (like a traveling theatre troupe?) or in the modern world. Obviously Double Trouble being in the theater works really well, but I also like the idea for Wrong Hordak! Whether he's helping backstage, working on props and things, or onstage himself. I like the way Wrong Hordak canonically watches and mimics people and could see that being reinterpreted as him learning to like to play roles and act. But I also like how he seems to really light up learning new things and finding hobbies he enjoys, like cooking, and how he likes helping people, so a different creative or otherwise backstage role could also work!

  • ALL: Being in a time loop together leads to getting together
Time loop stuff is just fun. I don't have as much to say about this one for these two, just that them being the two (or two of the ones) looping could maybe even be how they meet in the first place! Or maybe they at least vaguely knew one another before. Either way, with all kinds of magic including Madame Razz's whole deal, a time loop would not even be that unusual for canon. What (or who) is causing it and how do they stop it? (I am also totally okay if it isn't a "real loop" but if they figure out they're stuck in a simulation or another unstable fake reality, so long as they can eventually escape and no one dies!)

  • ALL: Canon-Setting Spies AU
  • ALL: In-universe coffeeshop AU
  • ALL: In-universe private investigators AU
I am really charmed by canon-setting, in-universe AUs like these! For a coffeeshop you could go full AU and just handwave one or both of them working at one (maybe with the other as a customer) but it's canon-setting so same species and magic existing and the Horde is/was a problem, etc. Or you could just have one or both of them work at one post-canon, it's fine! (Does Wrong Hordak make baked goods for the place?) For spies and PIs, somehow I think of those as being, like, two sides of a similar coin honestly. Do Double Trouble and Wrong Hordak both go undercover as loyal Horde Clones to gather information, find things out, interfere with Horde Prime's plans, rescue anyone, or even do an assassination? Does Mermista get them caught up in another fun undercover information-gathering mission where they make up false identities and backstories (and maybe Double Trouble tries to coach people)? Or do they both work for an actual spymaster/investigation agency? Are they partners? Or does Double Trouble go undercover among the Horde Clones and wind up helping/freeing Wrong Hordak? Or go full noir AU where it's canon-setting but one of them is the detective and one plays the part of femme/homme fatale! You could do a lot of stuff here!

  • All: Character Tries to Woo and Honorably Marry Their Fellow Sex Pollen Victim
I'm just laughing at the idea of these two getting hit with sex pollen (do they even know one another decently well beforehand or have they only recently even met?) and fucking, and Double Trouble afterwards basically rolling with it like "well that was fun" but Wrong Hordak somehow getting totally the wrong idea of what the correct response is and trying to take responsibility and make things right, and Double Trouble either being like "uhhhhhhh" or "oh, that's cute" and then "oh no he's cute." I don't really have any ideas beyond this, it was just the first thing I thought of and I kind of love it.

  • ALL: Everyone wakes up amnesiac on a spaceship
This could be played for humor or tension! By "everyone" I don't mind if that just means Double Trouble and Wrong Hordak, or if it means multiple Rebellion members, or if it means all the mains. I don't mind if it's Mara's ship or Horde Prime's ship or a totally different ship. Why are they amnesiac? Where is the ship going? What's going on and how do they fix it? How do they start getting their memories back/get them back all at once? Did they know one another beforehand or is this their first meeting? You could even play with the idea of them trying to figure out who they are while they're amnesiac and then Wrong Hordak (or both of them) feeling like they still sort of need to figure out who they are once they have their memories back... Make this as plotty as you want or just skim any plot stuff, or make it silly, just so long as these two get together I'll be happy!

  • ALL: Major Canon Location is haunted
The first thing that occurred to me was Mystacor, but it could be the palace at Bright Moon, the Crimson Waste (or a location in the Crimson Waste), the Fright Zone (or a location in the Fright Zone), Dryl, Beast Island, the Whispering Woods, the main First Ones ruin where Light Hope was, or Mara's ship! Has some of the Rebellion gone there (or is it Bright Moon), or do they both have their own reasons for being there? Did they come together or just happen to both be there? Do they know one another or do they meet for the first time on the trip there or while they're there? Do they just have to deal with the place being haunted while they do what they need to, do they just need to escape, or do they solve it somehow? They can be the only two there or not so long as the focus is on them and they get together!

  • ALL: Masquerade balls are the normal way of finding a partner
Look, Princess Prom made me feel things, okay? And one thing it made me feel was that that elaborate partner-trading "first dance" was SO GOOD. I'd love to see Double Trouble dance too; since they seem to have been there, they probably know the dance! And I'd love to see Wrong Hordak learn it/have learned it! Or it can be a somewhat different dance or no dance at all, but the point is, I now long for an AU where there are dances on Etheria that occur more often than every ten years where you get a chance to find your partner! (Just through choosing someone? Through magic? Or via dancing with people after all?) This could work really well for them meeting for the first time, but if they've met before but bond during the masquerade, whether or not they know exactly who the other is, that could also be good! I'm just a big sucker for masquerades and for dancing.

  • All: Met while captured together
Captured by who? Obviously the Horde Clones or Horde Prime is an option; is Double Trouble very apprehensive over the prospect of being chipped while Wrong Hordak is freaked out by the idea of being reconditioned and unwilling to be and they work together to escape? (I'd rather he not actually be conditioned but chipping either or both of them is fine at some point during the story so long as they get rescued and are free and together in the end!) I'd also be happy to have them be captured by anyone else! Some OC surviving First Ones? Crimson Wastelanders? (Like the snakemen, or someone else?) Pirates? (Like Captain Scurvy and crew, or someone else?) When they get captured, was Double Trouble pretending to be someone else when captured and that helps them escape? And/or do they get rescued? I'd love for them to bond and help one another! I am also good with most of the fic being post-capture if they just bond afterwards!

  • ALL: One Specific Demographic Has Heat Cycles
I'd prefer for this to be as non-dubconny as possible, with both parties being able to resist but it being unpleasant to do so and they don't particularly want to anyway! Heat being extreme unrelenting horniness (and maybe inspiring it in others) is hot. But some dubcon is fine for this prompt, so don't worry too much! I could see it for either of their species; maybe it's a Horde Clone thing whether or not Horde Prime did it on purpose, maybe it's a shapeshifter thing. How do they normally deal with it? Were there regular orgies on Horde Prime's ship? Does Double Trouble sometimes go have some fun with other people or do they usually just disappear for a while and ride it out with a lot of masturbation? I'd love for them to have to deal with this together whether they know one another pretty well, only vaguely know each other, or have barely met but are like "you're attractive though, I'm into this."

  • All: One Specific Demographic has soulmates while others don't
  • ALL: Soulmarks - Mark is damaged before soulmates meet
  • ALL: Soulmate AU with species differences in bonds/marks
SOULMATE STUFF. I am here for soulmate stuff!!! If one demographic has soulmates, I am good with it being shapeshifters or Horde Clones! While it might make a little more sense for shapeshifters, I'd happily roll with either! If it's just that the soulmate "tell" is different between their species, I'm down for nearly any soulmate indicators except for ones related to death (last words written on skin, etc.). Do all or many known sapient species have soulmates or is it just some? Finally, for "mark is damaged before soulmates meet," are both of their marks damaged or just one? (Or does only one have a mark while the other has a different indicator?) How did it happen? If it's just one, I could imagine potentially not all Horde Clones even get soulmarks and Horde Prime makes them unreadable whenever one does show up... But feel free to play around with other ideas if you like! I am here for it.

  • ALL: Requested character(s) are teachers at a superhero high school/college
Okay, I'll admit it, this one jumped out at me mostly because Double Trouble kind of has a built-in superpower and alias even in canon. Hell, you could have this be an in-universe superhero AU, but even if you set it in "the real world"/a more comic book-y world, Double Trouble could still be a shapeshifting lizard-person called Double Trouble whether or not they'd been "born human"! For Wrong Hordak, you could give him superpowers as well (making temporary duplicates of himself? or just something totally out of left field!), make him the clone/temporary duplicate made non-temporary of a supervillain who came around to the good guys' side (whether that's Horde Prime or Hordak tbh), or have him be tech-genius Entrapta's assistant and following in her footsteps! What do they teach? Does the school solely teach superheroing stuff, or are there some normal classes too? (I'm saying Double Trouble could be a drama teacher. Or teach undercover tactics, or acting lessons for in-the-field purposes! Wrong Hordak could give cooking lessons, or teach some 101 tech stuff, or be a sort of therapist or something...) Feel free to make your own spin on it, though, and just have fun with it; whatever you do, I'll love!

  • ALL: Secret Identity Is Not Revealed
The "secret identity" in this case is definitely Double Trouble's, but which one? Also, for this tag I don't mind if the secret identity is revealed in the fic, obviously, just not at the point that it is in canon. Does Double Trouble stay with the Rebellion as Flutterina, whether betraying the Horde or not, and just gets caught up in everything that happens with Horde Prime's army? Do they stay undercover as a Horde Clone for longer and meet Wrong Hordak (and some of the others?) as one? Do they not get caught out as Peekablue and wind up having to evacuate the Enchanted Grotto with Perfuma and Sea Hawk, then wind up working with the Rebellion as Peekablue for a bit bullshitting farsight? Or do they pretend to be a Horde Clone for a while after the final episode, after Horde Prime's death and they're all freed and being deprogrammed and integrated into Etherian society? In any of these circumstances, how would they and Wrong Hordak meet, how would they get along, when and how might Wrong Hordak find out who Double Trouble really is?

  • ALL: Space Outlaws AU
Space outlaws just sound fun tbqh! Is Etheria spacefaring in this AU? Is it just Double Trouble and Wrong Hordak who are space outlaws, or are some of the other characters? Is it that there's a Space Rebellion, or are they criminals? Is Wrong Hordak still a clone of Horde Prime? How did he and Double Trouble meet? Are they working together or do they run into one another, either both after the same thing or allying or both? You could do a lot of fun stuff with this, and I don't have as many solid ideas, but I would love anything!

  • All: xeno genitalia
This is just an excuse for porn! But I am so xeno, I would love anything for this. Does just one of them have xeno genitalia or do both of them? I imagine Double Trouble could have any sort of genitalia they want, actually, so there's so much you could do there! What might Horde Clones' genitalia be like? Or do they not have genitalia but can get off in other ways? Check my porn likes for me gushing about xeno genitalia (and other kinks), but legit feel free to go with anything and I will be INTO IT.

  • She-Ra: Double Trouble joins the Rebellion
There are a few points where this would make sense! Maybe Double Trouble actually gets won over as Flutterina and betrays the Horde for that reason and stays on with the Rebellion? Or maybe they just stick around after they go to leave the Fright Zone and the interstellar Horde shows up and they're like "uhhh... going back to the princesses now, what the fuck." OR maybe they join up with the Rebellion after the Perils of Peekablue episode when it's obvious that things are Real Bad, they've definitely decided they don't want Horde Prime to win, and they decide it might be better to stick together and work as a group! (I was half expecting that and a little surprised when it didn't happen.) In any case that would let Double Trouble meet Wrong Hordak at the end of An Ill Wind when Adora and co. get back to (what's left of) the Rebellion...

Canon-Specific DNWs

  • revealing a "real form" or "real name" for Double Trouble outside of what we're given in canon
Canon-Specific Likes

  • Wrong Hordak figuring out who he is and showing his individuality in new ways! possibilities (though not obligatory): new name (see below), hair style, hair color, fashion, makeup, learning skills and hobbies (I love the cooking thing, but also other stuff)!
  • WRONG HORDAK'S RELATIONSHIP WITH HIS SIBLINGS and with the other characters in general!
  • the idea of Wrong Hordak learning to say "sibling(s)" eventually instead of "brother(s)." and/or just calling everyone "sister(s)" no matter their gender before figuring out the non-gendered term. I just think it's cute!
  • noncanon background pairings I actually enjoy if they happen to come up: Entrapta/Scorpia, Perfuma/Huntara, Adora/Catra/Glimmer(/Bow), Baker/Busgirl/Soda Pop, Horde Clone OC/Horde Clone OC
  • NAMING CONVENTIONS. NICKNAMES, PET NAMES, names in general actually? while I wouldn't like a "real name" revealed for Double Trouble, I am very into the idea of Wrong Hordak either continuing to go by Wrong Hordak or choosing a different name! I don't mind what kind of name he has, either a stranger Etherian one or a "normal" one, gendered (stereotypically male or female) or genderless, or a noun name (something related to a shade of green could work? Mint, Spring, Erin, Fern? or something else!), or just like. Kadroh. or Wright? like right, get it?? Double Trouble often comes up with little endearment-names; do they ever call him darling, pup (like a baby bat!) or puppy, cutie, hot stuff, anything else? when they start getting closer does Wrong Hordak call them endearments, either because he likes them so much or just thinks it's normal for friends, like calling them "darling" too or "(my) dearest Double Trouble" (thanks Sea Hawk) or "beloved" (thanks chipped Spinarella?), or does he or anyone else call them DT or Dee or just Trouble? feel free to play around with this, i love this stuff!
  • if you're interested, I like trans headcanons for these characters! I like the idea of Busgirl as nonbinary, actually, rather than a girl (or a demigirl maybe?), but trans girl would also be cool. Baker I could see being a trans woman, but nonbinary would also be acceptable, and anything goes for Soda Pop. for other characters, just keep the canon pronouns the same and go with whatever -- except for Wrong Hordak, who I'd be happy to see as nonbinary or a trans girl. and of course trans headcanons aren't obligatory!

The Spectacular Spider-Man (Cartoon)
Otto Octavius/Adrian Toomes

I am just WAY TOO INVESTED in these ridiculous theatrical supervillains being pre-supervillain friends who are now loyal and in love while trying to take over the world/take murderous revenge!

While the first episode introduces both characters with Adrian furious at Otto, it makes sense, since they seem to have been close before (the photo on Otto's wall in the Doctor Octopus origin episode!) and Adrian was probably feeling hurt/betrayed. The rest of their dynamic is so far from what one might expect from that first impression that it's insane! Reunited as cellmates, Vulture helping Doc Ock with a big jailbreak, not just working together in the Sinister Six but Vulture ceding his desire to take vengeance on Osborn to follow Ock's plan to take out Spider-Man first... And they just never work apart again? Adrian is one of only three people to find out the Master Planner's true identity, part of his inner circle! When Ock tests out the technology meant to allow him to hack into every single electrical device in the city, he does so by trying to kill Norman Osborn, seemingly for Adrian's sake, and despite revenge being Vulture's driving motivation Adrian is totally fine about it not working. When Otto tries to credit him and Phineas Mason and for doing brilliant work assembling the technology, Adrian immediately demurs the compliment and turns it back around on him: "The brainwork was all yours, Otto." For a grouchy old man, he smiles a lot around Otto, too!

And even after the Master Planner's master plan is defeated and literally every other member of the Sinister Six seems to go their separate ways and do their own things, Vulture just stays with Doctor Octopus, seemingly acting as bodyguard for the auction, for the Valentine's Day summit (where they also dress up fancy and hot)... There are also just these cute little touches I love, like how in the first Sinister Six fight when Spider-Man jumps on the Vulture's back you can see the back of Doctor Octopus's head tracking them, and a few moments later Otto is the one to pull Spider-Man off Adrian's back. And when Doctor Octopus puts a tentacle on everyone's shoulders in the Sinister Six ep to ease them back down into their chairs, it looks like his tentacle is on Adrian's back instead of his shoulder. And when Hammerhead shoots at Adrian at the summit and knocks him unconscious, Otto's cry of "TREACHERY!" is fuckin pissed and he just has no patience for Tombstone in that fight after. I love how Ock seems to honestly care about his team and make an effort to make them happy, and how Vulture is perfectly willing to put his own goals on the backburner in a way that feels very "I am helping this man take over the world because he wants to and he deserves to get whatever he wants, fuck you." I love seeing these supervillains have huge soft spots, in general and especially for each other!

TL;DR they married, ty for reading my villain shipping Ted Talk.

  • All: Zombie Apocalypse
Apocalypse-related stuff is always a draw for me with superhero/supervillain and similar canons because they're the people who seem incredibly suited to surviving, more so than the majority of civilians! And with supervillains specifically I also like the added element of an apocalypse totally throwing off their plans and putting things into a different perspective for them, maybe even leading to them trying to help some people. A zombie apocalypse could be really fun, going horror story but with characters who really are better-equipped to deal with it. Do they fight well, go to ground well, or both? For any other apocalypse, I'd prefer to avoid any kind of (realistic) sickness, but anything else goes, really: Zombies, other monsters, the Shimmer, a Slow Apocalypse, a Mad Max-ish feeling setting, a sort of Fallout post-apocalypse, a bunch of people just disappearing, a robot uprising, kaiju, aliens, meteors, some other sort of natural disasters... Them having to deal with what's happening in the moment would be great, but post-apocalypse stuff would also be great! You could have them dealing with things post-apocalypse once it all settles down, maybe trying to re-build their lives or even repair/make a new a society, or you could even just AU them to have been born in a post-apocalyptic world. I'm here for any of it! (I'd prefer none of the characters I've requested for this canon, Electro, or Spider-Man get turned or killed, except Chameleon is okay... Other than that go nuts!)

  • ALL: Bodyswap
Okay, I love bodyswap plots and there are a lot of fun possibilities! Do they swap with each other, do all or a bunch of the Sinister Six swap with one another, are even more characters caught up in the swap, friend or foe? Is it both of them swapping or is one dealing with the swap? What caused the swap and how do they change back? Characters I could see working together to fix the swap somehow: these two, Tinkerer, Miles Warren or Curt Connors, and/or Spider-Man (whether or not he's caught up in it). One of the fun things about bodyswap to me is the character(s) having to get used to maneuvering around in each others' bodies and using one another's powers, and things like Ock's arms and Vulture's flight suit definitely count for that.

  • ALL: Canon setting has Silent Hill style Otherworld
I don't have a lot to say about this one, but I would just LOVE to read about these two or the SSM characters in general having to deal with what Silent Hill throws at them specifically, whatever it is! Whether the Otherworld has been there all along in NYC, or an Otherworld just sorta manifests there (maybe a cult or a supervillain does something to cause it?), or they both wind up in a place that has the Otherworld, I want them to get stuck there together and immediately protect one another and work together to survive! I want trauma and struggle and maybe for them to kiss, and I do want at least the characters I've requested for this fandom to survive/escape... other than that go nuts!

  • ALL: Changeling: The Lost AU
  • ALL: Vampire: The Masquerade AU
OH BOY I LOVE CHANGELING AUS. I'm good with this being a "canon divergence" fusion where these two (and maybe other characters, but maybe just them) are taken by the True Fae and have to escape and lean on each other after, maybe even have to work together to escape. I'm also good with this just being a straight-up AU where instead of the Sinister Six/Spider-Man if he's included, they're just a motley that forms after their escapes from Arcadia, or if it's just those two just forming a little motley/partnership of their own post-escape! I'd love to see what kiths and seemings you give the characters; I don't have any preferences, though I'm far more familiar with 1st edition than 2nd edition! I also love VTM AUs; I'd prefer a lighter take on at least these characters as Kindred since I'm a sap and ship them a lot, negl, and I'm happy with only one being a Kindred and eventually admitting it to the other (maybe even wanting to Embrace him?), or the Sinister Six (or just these two) being their own little coterie... I could easily see Otto as a Ventrue (making plans and in charge) and Adrian as a Gangrel (those eyes!) but you can play around with any clans for either of them as well as for the other characters if applicable!

  • ALL: Character suddenly acquires wings
  • ALL: Human character becomes/is becoming non-human
Okay, it probably works best if the character in question in these tags is Vulture, since he already has fake wings and knows how to fly, and also his odd eyes and sharp teeth could potentially imply that he's not 100% human. That said, if you wanted to play around with Otto becoming non-human or getting wings instead, that'd also be excellent! In either case, what causes it? Was the character already not fully human; were they becoming less human the whole time or is there a catalyst? (I could see Vulture as part harpy negl, but feel free to play with anything for either of them!) Does Miles Warren activate something in their DNA or inject them with (maybe bird?) DNA as an experiment? Is there some magic or curse? Do they want to reverse the non-human process or get rid of the wings? (I'd rather either both characters wind up into it or successfully manage to fix it if they don't like it at first. I am also into wingkink just fyi but it's not necessary. Have fun!)

  • ALL: Characters choose to get soulbonded for reasons
Soulbonds can be so good and I am really, REALLY into the idea of these two choosing to soulbond! Is it meant to be temporary or do they know it's going to be permanent? What are the reasons? To save or protect one another, to work better together, to pledge loyalty to one another (or one to the other), to stop either from having to soulbond to someone else, because if two prisoners soulbond they can get out of prison for some reason, because it's a normal romantic gesture/relationship milestone, because it's a marriage equivalent or happens at marriage? Finally, what symptoms come with soulbonds? A telepathic bond, an empathic bond, shared dreams, shared sensations, a need to be in proximity to one another, a need to touch, a need to have sex? I am good for anything there!

  • ALL: Characters sentenced to hunt ghosts instead of go to jail
Okay, I just love this one for criminal characters. It's so silly and can be treated as kinda silly or just presented as actually serious/normal. Is this a normal thing in the universe or a new thing they're trying out or a new thing for supervillains specifically? Are ghosts dangerous? What does "hunting" entail, do they need to capture or destroy the ghosts or get them to move on? You could set this after Doctor Octopus's original arrest and have him assigned to partner with Adrian/as part of Adrian's team (feel free to use the Sinister Six or just disposable OCs!), or you could set it after Gangland and assure they were both arrested, or you can just handwave a post-series arrest, I don't mind!

  • ALL: College/University AU
I'd still like an age gap (though I don't mind if you lessen it a bit to make things work), but feel free to make them both students (maybe Adrian is a returning student and/or Otto is in his first year of undergrad while Adrian is working on his doctorate), or you can make Adrian a professor and Otto a student (though I'd prefer if Otto isn't taking any of Adrian's courses in that case). Or have them both as their canon ages and make them both professors!! What are they majoring in/what courses are they taking and/or what do they teach? Feel free to have this as a mundane AU, or an in-universe AU where they still are or become supervillains, or a mix of the two (maybe Adrian has a bitter but not quite lethal hatred of Vice President or Dean Norman Osborn and at some point Otto still kinda snaps and decides to somehow take over the university but, you know, by somehow becoming the new dean rather than by a violent takeover). You could have a lot of fun with this so feel free to play around and I'll love it!

  • ALL: heist-style story but fantasy setting
Okay, this can be a supervillain heist or just a criminal heist, and feel free to go wild with the fantasy setting! Is it in a fantasy or urban fantasy version of New York City? Or it is in your own original fantasy or fairy tale like setting? You can also feel free to set it in the world of D&D or one inspired by, or in Discworld, or really in your favorite fantasy setting so long as I can read the fic canon-blind. What kind of heist are they doing? What are they stealing and why? Is the whole Sinister Six in on it? Is Spider-Man still trying to stop them? In this fantasy setting do they still have their tech and powers just like in canon or do they, like, have magic and/or aren't human (like Vulture having real wings)? Or magitech? I don't have as much to say about this one but I'm into it, so go nuts!

  • ALL: Pokemon Trainer AU
I just love Pokemon AUs! And I know the tag says Pokemon Trainer AU specifically, and I'd be happy to see them both (and other characters) as Pokemon trainers, but I'd be equally happy to see them as scientists, engineers, Professors, making stuff like Silph Co. does, doing something related to the Pokemon Snap thing, or maybe members of some Bad Team. Feel free to give them any sort of Pokemon, but I can easily imagine Otto having an Octillery and/or psychic Pokemon (maybe a Malamar instead, even though that's a squid?) and Adrian training birds! Go with whatever Pokemon you like, though. Heck, if you wanted to do some sort of fusion, Otto could still have his arms and Adrian could still have his flight suit, whether they're making trouble or not, and maybe Spider-Man's out there having been bit by some sort of unique Spinarak/Ariados, Galvantula, or Dewpider/Araquanid and now he has some psychic/poison/electric/water-based powers, depending. That could be fun!

  • ALL: Soulmarks - appear after your soulmate gives you your first orgasm
  • ALL: Soulmate AU - Pain-Based Bonds
  • ALL: Soulmate-Identifying Timers AU
  • ALL: Soulmates exist but are rare
I LOVE SOULMATES. And I really love these two being soulmates! For the first tag, have either or both of them been in love with the other for a while, maybe even years, before they eventually have sex for the first time? Or does their desire make them rethink their relationship and the sudden appearance of soulmarks make them rethink it further? (Maybe they were taking their comfort with one another a bit for granted and didn't realize they were in love?) For the second tag, it could be pain and pleasure based bonds both, but either way I can see it being cause for some alarm during both of their initial supervillain ventures and being worrying but also potentially useful in any kind of supervillain situation, either working together in combat or alerting one that the other is somewhere being hurt and needs help! Or someone could try to hurt one of them to get to the other... (If pleasure it could also be useful for smut!) For the third tag, it'd have to be set pre-canon but I love the idea of nervous Otto Octavius and standoffish, possibly not into the idea of soulmates Adrian Toomes meeting at Tri Corp and realizing they're soulmates! And for the fourth tag, that could be applied to any of the others or just come with whatever marks or symptoms or bonds you like (except I'd rather nothing to do with death like "last words" or anything like that). If they know they're one of the rare few to have a soulmate before meeting, how do they both feel about that? If they don't, how surprised are they to learn that they of all people have a soulmate? Do they realize when they meet or at some point when they're supervillains or at some other point?

  • ALL: Villain was actually right all along
  • ALL: Villain turns good
These are two totally different ways you can play around with the fact that they're supervillains in canon! For the first, I mean... let's be real... a lot of the problems in the series would have been solved if Vulture had been allowed to drop Norman Osborn from 50+ stories in the air. And/or you can play Ock's desire to take over the world as beneficent, albeit expressed in a very strange way; does he want to actually force good changes like nuclear disarmament, wrangling supercorporations, codifying methods to stop global warming, etc? I am also good with you interpreting that tag as "villain has a point" and letting them be understandable and sympathetic and not bad people but also eventually acknowledging that they need to go about things a different way and shouldn't actually commit a murder/forcibly take over the world. That could tie into the "villain turns good" tag, even! But if not, for that tag you could be a bit more critical of them but have them come around to stopping what they're doing, either retiring from supervillainy or actually becoming heroes! (If you do that, I'd rather they both retire/reform. I can imagine that if Otto did, Adrian would follow after, at the very least.)

Canon-Specific DNWs

  • any of the Sinister Six, especially these two specifically, being presented as irredeemably crazy/evil
  • either character betraying the other
  • honestly, any of the Sinister Six betraying each other (Shocker not included, he's an Enforcer first and foremost, he was just on loan)
  • Electro being referred to as anything other than Electro if he shows up/is mentioned
Canon-Specific Likes

  • noncanon background pairings I actually enjoy if they happen to come up: Mysterio/Tinkerer(/Chameleon), Sandman/Rhino
  • Otto/Adrian/Electro is noncanon poly I would be totally okay with, so long as Otto and Adrian have heavy focus; obviously this is not necessary
  • generally I like Sinister Six poly even if it's not the focus, actually, if the rest of the Sinister Six are included, I just really want Otto and Adrian to be heavily focused on!
  • NICKNAMES/PET NAMES, and honestly, I count how Otto and Adrian always seem to address each other by their first names; I also like, if you include him in the fic at all, the way Electro always calls Otto "Doc" and seems to call Adrian "Vulch" and they are both totally open to being called those things from him!
  • if you're interested, I like trans headcanons for either/both of these characters; for both of them I'm happy with anything, nonbinary or trans man or trans woman. trans headcanons for any other Sinister Six if they show up are also 100% good; I would prefer Electro as a trans woman or nonbinary if you write that character as trans, but anything goes for all the rest of them! and of course trans headcanons aren't obligatory!

The Spectacular Spider-Man (Cartoon)
Phineas Mason/Donald Menken
Quentin Beck/Phineas Mason/Donald Menken

Okay, this is a ship where Menken never actually met either of these characters in canon, Phineas is a fairly minor character, and Menken is a "7 minutes of canon in a 10 hour series" minor character. So let me explain.

Basically, I can easily imagine these Phineas and Menken bonding over their similarities if they had a chance to get to know one another, and I can think of a few scenarios in which they might. They're both professionals, even if Phineas is often more casual and shows more mischeviousness. They both have some sort of expertise that leaves other people relying on them and like to work in a support capacity out of the spotlight: Phineas as a tech genius and Menken as a P.A.

But what really intrigues me is that... Phineas seems to be doing all of these criminal things, working with first Chameleon and Quentin Beck, then the Sinister Six, then even doing work for Tombstone and the Enforcers, solely because he enjoys doing it; he's enough of a genius that he could easily sell legal inventions! He has absolutely no origin story or anything, I have to assume his criminal career is for the love of it. And Menken's contributions in-series go beyond loyalty to Osborn and far beyond P.A. duties; his reaction in the finale makes me pretty certain he didn't ever know that Osborn was the Green Goblin, so just in his capacity as personal assistant to the CEO of Oscorp he was a)willing to run in alongside a security guard with only a cell phone to face a supervillain, b)coordinating with Osborn's "operatives" to try to find an escaped supervillain who wants Osborn dead, and c)calmly in charge of an auction where supervillains and mobsters were betting millions of dollars on the specs to the same impenetrable armor used to create the supervillain Rhino, which Osborn for some mysterious reason had proprietary access to. So Menken was willing to do some very criminal shit unflinchingly while not asking too many questions. There's probably different possible interpretations, but I feel like it's another similarity with Phineas: getting involved with criminal and supercriminal stuff was exciting and more enjoyable to both of them than just having a completely normal career. (Whether or not Menken would initially admit that he's even the type of person to want danger and adrenaline in his life, but then, hey, Phineas likes to deny that he's theatrical as hell...)

For any sort of setup in any AU that isn't 100% different from canon, whether you explore it at all in fic or just take it as read, I feel like there are a lot of possibilities as to how they might have met and how they might know one another post-canon. If Menken continues to work for Oscorp after Norman Osborn's apparent death (maybe even stepping in as CEO?), some shit going down could bring him into the Sinister Six's sphere, and/or that of Chameleon and company... or Tinkerer just ends up doing some work for Oscorp. If Osborn comes back, as himself or as the Goblin, maybe he tries to finish the job and kill Menken and/or Menken is just very calmly fine with Vulture trying to kill his old boss due to how Osborn betrayed him. Maybe Menken hears of the Tinkerer and goes to him to get some sort of protection just in case Osborn survived and comes back; maybe it's a skill-enhancement suit, maybe he even gets drawn into the supervillain lifestyle as Tinkerer notes that he's more into this than he'd like to admit. (Feel free to make up a supervillain identity for him or use something like, idk, Scorpion or Owl from the comics!) Or maybe instead of that, Menken leaves Oscorp to become L. Thompson Lincoln's P.A. in order to try to get protection; maybe he's open to becoming Tombstone's new right hand man, or denies that he wants to but is intrigued by the idea, or just honestly doesn't like the idea, but either way he could easily meet Tinkerer if Tinkerer is continuing to do work on commission for Tombstone. Or it's Silver Sable and/or Silvio Manfredi they're both doing work for.

When it comes to incorporating Beck... Well, you can see the entry below for why I ship Quentin/Phineas, but I could sincerely see them as already a thing even when the show starts or falling in love/realizing they're in love shortly after, they just work so well together! When it comes to Beck/Mason/Menken, though, I'm amused by the fact that Menken already met Mysterio, sort of, for a moment... and I could also imagine him meeting Quentin again, properly this time, through Phineas. Mysterio is much more bombastic than the Tinkerer, but he's also much cleverer and more elusive than he seems, full of misdirection, and Beck comes across very differently from Mysterio while also still being quite theatrical, matter-of-fact and professional (and also a totally different accent, which I find weirdly hot, but hey).

Then see how I feel like Menken finds it exciting to be involved with criminal and supercriminal stuff and might get more of a rush from getting involved than he'd like to admit that Beck's professionalism + Mysterio's bombast may well also be attractive to Menken, and/or Mysterio might encourage him... I can also see Beck being super comfortable being with Mason while also being an unashamed flirt with them both, so that could be fun!

I'm also good with this just being a straight-up AU where instead of the Sinister Six/Chameleon and co. being criminals, they're just a motley that forms after their escapes from Arcadia, or if it's just those two/three just forming a little motley/partnership of their own post-escape! Do any of them first meet in Arcadia or shortly post-escape or when joining the same freehold? I'd love to see what kiths and seemings you give the characters; I don't have any preferences, though I'm far more familiar with 1st edition than 2nd edition! I also love VTM AUs; I'd prefer a lighter take on at least these characters as Kindred since I'm a sap and ship them a lot, negl, and I'm happy with only one or two being Kindred and eventually admitting it to the other(s?) (maybe even wanting to Embrace or ghoul or recruit as a ghoul?), or it just being a little coterie consisting of the Sinister Six, Chameleon and co., or just these two or three... I could easily see Menken as a Ventrue, Mason as a Nosferatu, and Beck as a Toreador, but I could also see Mason and Beck actually being Chameleon's ghouls, with Chameleon being a rogue Tzimisce or Nosferatu, and/or Menken either being a ghoul or a human just getting caught up in things. But you can play around with any clans or circumstances, really, for these characters as well as for the other characters if applicable!

  • ALL: Character who doesn't have a Superpower in Canon has one or gains one
  • ALL: Human character becomes/is becoming non-human
Just to get Menken more involved in shit, he was the first one that came to mind, tbh! And I'd count Menken getting some sort of tech or powered suit as him getting superpowers. To reiterate myself: "Maybe Menken hears of the Tinkerer and goes to him to get some sort of protection just in case Osborn survived and comes back; maybe it's a skill-enhancement suit, maybe he even gets drawn into the supervillain lifestyle as Tinkerer notes that he's more into this than he'd like to admit. (Feel free to make up a supervillain identity for him or use something like, idk, Scorpion or Owl from the comics!)" Or maybe Menken gets actual superpowers somehow (some kind of accident/incident?), gets forcibly injected with something by Miles Warren, or something else? That said, it doesn't have to be Menken, either! Tinkerer doesn't have any powers and is totally baseline human, just a genius, and strictly speaking Mysterio is baseline human with absolutely no superpowers too. You could AU one or both of them to have some kind of powers from the start, or get superpowers somehow during or post-canon, or again get turned non-human somehow (Miles Warren or something else)! Or something could happen to both/all/more than one of them! Does whoever it is want to reverse the non-human process or get rid of their new powers? (I'd rather either both/all characters wind up into it or successfully manage to fix it if they don't like it at first.)

  • ALL: Characters initially meet at kink or sex club
  • ALL: Interesting people you meet in prison
  • All: Met while captured together
Okay, this is just different ways Menken could first meet Mason (and maybe also Beck) since he didn't in canon! For the first tag, I won't lie, I imagine Mason being actually incredibly kinky and open to a lot of sex/sleeping around. Does Beck go with him potentially, either also super into it or just sometimes for fun? Does Menken usually do this, is it a new thing on a whim, or did he kinda have to get dragged there by someone? For the second tag, did Menken do a supervillain thing on his own or get implicated in something his boss had done (whether that's Norman Osborn or in some scneario where he went to work for Tombstone or the Manfredi family), and then meets Mason and/or Beck in prison? Feel free to have it be jail instead (Mason and Menken might even both not be sentenced or given a much lighter one than prison time) and/or to have the Beck that was arrested actually be an android again. Or is Menken visiting the prison for some reason and meets an inmate or two, or meets someone else also visiting? Hell, I'm open to Menken meeting someone other than these two and it just being how he gets invited into the Sinister Six and ends up meeting Tinkerer (and Mysterio?) properly. Finally, for the last one, WHOO BOY CAPTURE. Does Green Goblin go after Menken again and Tinkerer to either force him to make something or to get to Chameleon and Mysterio (for failing him and stealing from him respectively) (or maybe also goes after Beck)? Does Menken go to work for Tombstone to try to get protection (and also because he's more into the crime thing than he'll admit) and Hammerhead abducts both him for "replacing him" and Tinkerer for upgrading the Enforcers and being a pain? (I don't know why Hammerhead would go after Mysterio tbh.) Are both/all of them captured by Miles Warren intending to experiment on them? There are probably more options; there's a lot of possibilities and I'd love for you to play with any of them, I just love the idea of these two or three being threatened and terrified/hurt and trying to protect each other/help one another escape or hold out until rescue/contact people to rescue them and bonding despite just meeting for the first time due to the circumstances they find themselves in!

  • ALL: first words to soulmate written on the skin
  • ALL: Soulmarks - appear after your soulmate gives you your first orgasm
  • ALL: Soulmate-Identifying Timers AU
I LOVE SOULMATES. And I really love these characters being soulmates, whether it's Mason/Menken or a trio situation! For the first tag, is this a world where people usually try to say distinctive things when first meeting new people? If Beck/Mason/Menken, do they all have multiple first words written on their skin the whole time, or do new words pop up every time they meet one? (I'm really amused by the idea that one of the things written on Menken's skin might be "Dormi." Have fun trying to figure out the context of that one and then being kinda "what the fuck?" when it happens!) For the second tag, do Mason and Menken have feelings when they first have sex or was it just sexual tension or even just a hookup? How do they deal with that? If it's Beck/Mason/Menken, maybe Beck and Mason are already a thing; is it a surprise to Mason and Menken when a second soulmark appears on Mason's skin, especially if multiple soulmates aren't super common? And for the third tag, let me quote my Soul-2-Soul letter: "For [Soulmate-Identifying Timers], there are two elements about it I really love. One is the anticipation and potential nerves of seeing your soulmate timer counting down and knowing it's happening incredibly soon. The other is, in a situation where you have more than one soulmate, your timer counting down until you meet each other and this is your soulmate... and then after flashing 0:00 for a few moments, you both notice that both of your soulmate timers have started up again counting down from a new number..." With Beck/Mason/Menken, maybe Beck and Mason were surprised to have their timers start back up again after they met. And maybe after Blueprints once everything's calmed down again Beck (or Mason) notices that, wait, at some point during what just happened Beck's timer stopped again! Or maybe Mysterio knew before stealing from Oscorp that he was going to be meeting his second soulmate in there but isn't sure who exactly it was. (At least he knows it's not Spider-Man!) Does Mason help him narrow it down by surreptitiously meeting all the people Beck met that day until his own timer hits 0:00? And/or maybe Menken realized sometime after he woke up/came back to himself that his own timer was counting down from a higher number than it had been that that morning and isn't 100% certain what happened? (And if it's just Mason/Menken, feel free to come up with your own scenario; I'd be super happy with just them, too!)

  • ALL: heist-style story but fantasy setting
Okay, this can be a supervillain heist or just a criminal heist, done by the Sinister Six (can include Menken or not), or by Chameleon and co. (can include Menken or not), or just by Mason and Menken (and Beck?). Feel free to go wild with the fantasy setting; is it in a fantasy or urban fantasy version of New York City? Or it is in your own original fantasy or fairy tale like setting? You can also feel free to set it in the world of D&D or one inspired by, or in Discworld, or really in your favorite fantasy setting so long as I can read the fic canon-blind. What kind of heist are they doing? What are they stealing and why? Is Spider-Man trying to stop them? In this fantasy setting are they still using tech just like in canon or do they, like, have actual magic and/or aren't human? Or magitech? If Menken's not involved in the heist as well, does he maybe work for the place they're pulling the heist at or the person they're stealing from? I don't have as much to say about this one but I'm super into it, so go nuts!

  • ALL: Heroes & Villains on the Same Side
There's a few ways you could interpret this tag, imo! By "Heroes & Villains" does it mean Spider-Man and the Sinister Six (or Spider-Man and Chameleon and co.) in general? Is Menken even part of either side of this or does he just get caught up in whatever is happening (a team-up against a bigger threat?)? Or is nothing happening but the implication is that some/all of the villains have seen the error of their ways and reformed, or Spider-Man's realized they have legit grievances (well, most of them) and/or aren't too bad and has talked them around to being less... extreme but is helping them accomplish things in less Supervillainy ways? You could, as said, have Menken caught up in it or needing help, or you could have Menken as a part of the "villains," either as a supervillain or just having gotten into crime in a different capacity. This is just a general situation idea that I'd really enjoy if you played around with and had some fun with!

  • ALL: Masquerade balls are the normal way of finding a partner
Okay, look, I love elaborate costumes and I love disguises and I absolutely love my ships dancing together so this is catnip to me. Holy shit. Is Phineas there legitimately to find a partner, or is he there with Chameleon and Beck (or there on behalf of/with some of the Sinister Six) to scope out the place/distract/disable some security stuff/otherwise subtly help out with a Crime? Is Menken even actively looking for anyone or is he just there because it's expected or is he there working? Who's hosting the ball: Norman Osborn, L. Thompson Lincoln, the Manfredi family, the mayor? Have he and Phineas even met before, or is this their first meeting and they just unexpectedly click? Is it a "finding a partner" situation where you're just meant to find someone who you feel you're compatible with, or is there some sort of magic or something involved that tells you "yep, this is the one/this is a suitable partner"? And if Beck/Mason/Menken, does Beck also attend as himself even though he and Mason are already partners (just for fun or looking for a third or to do a crime)? Does he go in with a normal Masquerade Guise and then does the Mysterio thing after? Does he just crash the place as Mysterio? I'm happy with this just being Beck/Mason and Mason/Menken if it's easier, but I'd love just Mason/Menken or true OT3 as well!

  • ALL: Pokemon Trainer AU
  • ALL: Pokemon Snap AU
I just love Pokemon AUs and I COULD NOT resist a Pokemon Snap AU specifically either! Mostly because of how in Persona, Phineas took pictures of Spider-Man with those cool goggles to send to the Daily Bugle. So for the Pokemon Snap tag, maybe Phineas is working for/with a Pokemon researcher by going out and taking photos, is one himself, or is independent (with Chameleon and co. or not) sending researchers his findings? Instead or as well, is Tinkerer a part of some team that Makes Trouble (whether the Sinister Six or Chameleon and Beck)? Is Menken a research assistant working at the same place or somewhere Phineas sends his photos or elsewhere? And I know the tag says Pokemon Trainer AU specifically, and I'd be happy to see them both/all (and other characters) as Pokemon trainers, but I'd be equally happy to see them as scientists, engineers, Professors, making stuff like Silph Co. does, assistants to any of the above, or maybe members of some Bad Team. Feel free to give them any sort of Pokemon, but I can easily imagine Tinkerer having things that could be related to making tech stuff (so like, Electric, Steel, Fire types, ones like Porygon, etc.), Mysterio having Psychic or Ghost or Dark types (or "fakes" like Hawlucha), and/or Menken having, like, some of the Office Worker Pokemon or something lol. Go with whatever Pokemon you like, though; I am not married to any of those ideas!

  • ALL: Weird West AU
For a Weird West AU, I can imagine it being basically like canon except instead of being set in New York City it's set in the Wild West or even a Trigun-y sort of setting (whether still in [handwavey] New York City/fantasy NYC or not). Since it's Weird West they could even still have a similar level of tech and stuff, and powers, and still be supervillains, but giving it a bit of a cowboy/outlaw/scofflaw feel could be fun! (Giving the Sinister Six some Gung Ho Guns energy could also be fun, or just having Chameleon and co. being thieves and outlaws. Having Menken working for robber baron Norman Osborn and getting caught up in outlaw stuff as well!) I don't have much to say about this, but seriously, playing with either ship in this kind of setting change AU just in general would be great!

  • All: Zombie Apocalypse
Apocalypse-related stuff is always a draw for me with superhero/supervillain and similar canons because they're people who seem at least somewhat more suited to surviving than the majority of civilians! And with criminals and supervillains specifically I also like the added element of an apocalypse totally throwing off their plans and putting things into a different perspective for them, maybe even leading to them trying to help some people. A zombie apocalypse could be really fun, going horror story but with characters who really are better-equipped to deal with it. Do they fight well, go to ground well, or both? (Probably both, with these characters.) Does Mason, or do Mason and Beck, end up helping out Menken on a whim because the zombie thing and so many people dying has legitimately shaken everyone up and they won't just let someone else die if they can help it, even a stranger? You could also set it post-apocalypse, not with no more zombies but with the threat having calmed some or at least the initial apocalypse event being done and them maybe trying to re-build their lives or even repair/make a new a society. Maybe one behind some sturdy walls and/or with some serious weaponry/booby traps at the perimeter. (I'd prefer none of the characters I've requested for this canon, Electro, or Spider-Man get turned or killed, except Chameleon is okay if you want extra angst... Other than that go nuts!)

Canon-Specific DNWs

  • any of these three, Chameleon, or really any of the Sinister Six being presented as irredeemably crazy/evil
  • betrayal of or by Chameleon
  • honestly, any of the Sinister Six betraying each other (Shocker not included, he's an Enforcer first and foremost, he was just on loan)
  • major hostility of any of the Six towards Menken
  • Electro being referred to as anything other than Electro if he shows up/is mentioned
Canon-Specific Likes

  • noncanon background pairings I actually enjoy if they happen to come up: Doctor Octopus/Vulture(/Electro), Sandman/Rhino, Chameleon/Quentin (if you're writing Mason/Menken)
  • also, Phineas/Quentin(/Chameleon) simultaneous with Phineas/Menken, or Quentin/Phineas/Chameleon simultaneous with Quentin/Phineas/Menken, is noncanon poly I would be totally okay with, so long as one of my requested ships gets the heavy focus; obviously this is not necessary
  • generally I like Sinister Six poly even if it's not the focus, actually, if the Sinister Six are included
  • nicknames! pet names! Menken is solely referred to as Menken in-series, in a professional/distant capacity (by Norman Osborn, Harry, and Spidey); even without shipping any of them I like the idea that Chameleon, Phineas, and Quentin are close and Chameleon still refers to the two of them solely by surname, so maybe even in a ship these characters might refer to one another as Mason, Menken, and Beck? or do they get on first-name basis? Ock calls the Tinkerer "Phineas" but no one calls Menken "Donald" or "Don" in the show itself; is it rare for anyone to get that close to him? (no one in the show calls Beck "Quentin," either, but I'm fine with it!) (as a note, "Phin" is also fine, I'm easy.) and when it comes to supervillain names... if Menken uses the names Tinkerer and/or Mysterio, is it in a professional capacity, as a form of flirting, or potentially due to a thrill he might get interacting with supervillains? if you make Menken a supervillain as well, would Tinkerer and/or Mysterio calling him by that name (whatever you choose) be professional, a sign of acceptance, an encouragement into this way of life, a flirtation... and how would Menken feel being called that?
  • if he shows up, I do love Chameleon's habit of referring to literally everyone by surname even if he might be close to them, and I like that he's solely known as Chameleon; on the other hand, I also love Doctor Octopus's habit of referring to people he's on good terms with by first name if he shows up. I also like Electro's habit of calling Doctor Octopus "Doc" and Vulture "Vulch," so if he shows up in the fic, maybe he calls Tinkerer "Tink" and/or Mysterio "Mysty/Misty"? (If so I'd rather they like it than hate it!) I'd also welcome him coming up with a little nickname for Menken's supervillain name if you go that route!
  • if you're interested, I like trans headcanons for all of these characters! I like the idea of both Mason and Menken as trans men, actually, but either/both nonbinary or trans women would also be fine; I could see Beck as anything really. trans headcanons for Chameleon or any of the Sinister Six if they show up are also 100% good; if Chameleon is included or mentioned I especially like nonbinary for him, and I would prefer Electro as a trans woman or nonbinary if you write that character as trans, but anything goes for all the rest of them! and of course trans headcanons aren't obligatory!

The Spectacular Spider-Man (Cartoon)
Quentin Beck/Phineas Mason
Quentin Beck/Chameleon/Phineas Mason

THESE TWO MAKE ME HAPPY. When we're first introduced to them they're the kinda grouchy-seeming professionals working with Chameleon and playing a dumb card-flicking game in "bisexuals can't sit normally" fashion while they wait. They're basically Chameleon's backup in that episode, and you don't get to see fully what they're like until the second season, but I really like the juxtaposition of how they are in this episode as compared to later ones! (Personally, I feel as if neither of them had their supervillain identities at all until somewhere between "Persona" and "Blueprints" when the Master Planner hired them. I also feel that they'd been working together for at least a little while before their introductory episode, though who was the first to work with who, out of the three of them, and for how long, is totally up to you. Also up to you whether they usually call each other by first name or last name, and how often they call each other by supervillain name nowadays!)

Quentin Beck used to be a special effects technician before leaving for his life of crime, and he's got a very interesting balance between his real self and the Mysterio act that I find really fun! He's a professional and Mysterio is an overly-theatrical fuckin dork, but Quentin is also deep down (and not so deep down) a theatrical dork. I can imagine that Quentin puts some of the things he wants to be into Mysterio, because that's common for supervillains and superheroes both, but Mysterio is also a role he plays for a specific purpose: misdirection, keeping people focused on him rather than his tricks or the crimes his act is distracting away from! That said, he got hired to be Mysterio for the thefts and then just decided that was fun as hell and absolutely wanted to do from then on, so there's also that element to him. I feel like he's also enjoying getting to be center stage as Mysterio in a way he doesn't get to be on jobs with Chameleon. Phineas Mason, on the other hand, is an inventor who rolls his eyes at "actors" being theatrical but is absolutely theatrical himself even if he won't admit it. I don't think he's an actor, not in the way that Chameleon and Quentin are; he was wayyy in the background in "Persona" in non-speaking roles whenever his presence was necessary out in the field, and he seems to prefer to stay back and provide "technical support" and make things for other people to use. But he obviously has fun leaning into the mad scientist supervillain act at least a little ("allow me to introduce our host and benefactor"; "welcome to your lair, Master Planner"; "all that remains is calibration... and testing") and occasionally amuses himself making dorky jokes ("put even more 'ric' in your 'ochet'"). I also imagine he has no criminal record (the arrest at the end of "Persona" didn't seem to stick and one of the cops did say in the first episode that the people Spider-Man apprehends nearly always walk...) and is staying in the background to avoid getting one for as long as possible, because him being able to work within the law is really convenient for them.

Basically, though, I love the dynamic of two characters who are just doing this shit because they love it, who've been working together a while and are developing supervillain personas kind of simultaneously mostly for the fun of it. I have a feeling Tinkerer made most of the robots and tech that Mysterio uses, though Quentin himself also contributed the "will-weaking" gas and the mask and makeup for his own android. (Which also means that the reason Quentin is just never arrested after "Persona" and it's always a goddamn android is thanks to Phineas, which makes me smile.) Phineas might not even charge him for that stuff! Just in general they're basically married and I love that...

AND THEN POTENTIALLY ADD CHAMELEON TO THE MIX. IMO it was absolutely brilliant for The Spectacular Spider-Man to introduce these three as a team working together; Mysterio might have hired the Chameleon once in the comics, but otherwise none of them really teamed up, but it works perfectly! The person who can disguise himself as anyone, the special effects expert, and the inventor/technological expert have a lot to offer each other, and I love that they seem to usually hire themselves out to steal shit for the rich and powerful.

Chameleon is a fascinating character to me, both in and of himself and in the dynamic with these two. He's a professional who can have a no-nonsense sort of response to things (seeing his phone call with the person who hired them to steal the symbiote, and his "I did not sign on for this" response in the finale), but who also has a mischievous sense of humor and is absolutely theatrical especially when inhabiting a role (his Spider-Man impression was really funny to me). He has his own life and isn't always working with Beck and Phineas, but given the way he talked in "Persona" I get the strong impression Beck makes his disguises, including the face masks, so I imagine they at least keep in touch often. I also feel like the three of them worked together for at least a few years before we meet them in canon, which is a dynamic I love; they'd all be very used to each other! And I enjoy the idea that when they do jobs together they split the take rather than Beck or Phineas charging Chameleon (or each other) or anything... As well as really liking the idea that even being incredibly close with the two of them it's just Chameleon's habit to call even people he loves by their surnames. I also also like how "Mason" and "Beck"'s names are first given while Chameleon is requesting their help and simultaneously praising their skills! And I just in general really love the idea of a team of criminals who work great together and highly respect one another's skills and are also all in love. (Though I also don't mind if it's a poly V so long as the center of the V is Quentin or Phineas, not Chameleon.)

  • ALL: College/University AU
For the first tag... listen, with Chameleon disguising himself as other people, Quentin's pride in his roles and utter theatrical bent, and Phineas's "actors" line, I couldn't not! I love the idea of these three (or just Quentin and Phineas if you prefer) doing amateur/community theater. Maybe they're still criminals while they do, or maybe they aren't! Maybe Chameleon looks like a normal person, maybe he doesn't! Chameleon works best as an actor, of course, but I could see Quentin as an actor, as someone doubling both with special effects (and/or costuming, etc.?) and acting, or just as somone doing special effects and costuming and various other backstage stuff but wanting to break out as an actor. And of course Phineas would be a brilliant member of the tech crew! Maybe he's in charge of it, maybe not. Maybe he sometimes helps out with minor/background/extra roles onstage. The idea is just charming to me! For the second tag, I'd still like an age gap between Phineas and Beck (though I don't mind if you lessen it a bit to make things work), but feel free to make them both/all students (maybe Phineas is a returning student, or all of them are, and/or Quentin is in his first year of undergrad while Phineas is working on a doctorate and maybe Chameleon is working on his bachelor's or master's degree!), or you can make Phineas a professor and Quentin a student (though I'd prefer if Quentin isn't taking any of Phineas's courses in that case... hell, maybe Phineas and Quentin are both students and Chameleon is a professor...). Or have them both/all as their canon ages and make them professors!! What are they majoring in/what courses are they taking and/or what do they teach? Are they part of the theater department or members of the university's theater? (You could combine the two tags, but you certainly don't have to!) Feel free to have this as a mundane AU, or have them still be criminals, or have them still be or become supervillains. You could have a lot of fun with this so feel free to play around and I'll love it!

  • ALL: Bodyswap
Okay, I love bodyswap plots and there are a lot of fun possibilities! Do they swap with each other/one another, do all or a bunch of the Sinister Six swap with one another, are even more characters caught up in the swap, friend or foe? Is it both of them swapping, all three of them swapping, two out of the three swapping, or is only one dealing with a swap? What caused the swap and how do they change back? Characters I could see working together to fix the swap somehow: Tinkerer, Doc Ock, Vulture, Miles Warren or Curt Connors, and/or Spider-Man (whether or not he's caught up in it). One of the fun things about bodyswap to me is the character(s) having to get used to maneuvering around in each others' bodies and using one another's powers/tech, but I'm also intrigued by how these two/three are used to going to ground, hiding out, laying low, and disguising themselves, and using androids, so how might they deal with this kind of swap? Or since two out of three of these characters are actors and Phineas seems to have some minor acting experience during their jobs, do they try to pretend to be one another/the people they swapped with among anyone they don't totally trust?

  • ALL: Canon setting has Silent Hill style Otherworld
I don't have a lot to say about this one, but I would just LOVE to read about these characters or the SSM characters in general having to deal with what Silent Hill throws at them specifically, whatever it is! Whether the Otherworld has been there all along in NYC, or an Otherworld just sorta manifests there (maybe a cult or a supervillain does something to cause it?), or they both/all wind up in a place that has the Otherworld, I want them to get stuck there together and immediately protect one another and work together to survive! I want trauma and struggle and maybe for them to kiss, and I do want at least the characters I've requested for this fandom to survive/escape... other than that go nuts!

OH BOY I LOVE CHANGELING AUS. • ALL: Characters choose to get soulbonded for reasons
  • All: Soulbond - Accidental/Involuntary
SOULBONDS CAN BE SO GOOD. Are soulbonds known/common or is this a rare or even one-off thing? For the first tag, I really love the idea of these two or three choosing to soulbond! Was it intended to be temporary or do they know it's going to be permanent? What are the reasons? To save or protect one another, to work better together, to pledge loyalty to one another, to take advantage of legal benefits of being soulmates (I kind of love the idea that Phineas knows how to use the law to his advantage and often does so), because it's a normal romantic gesture/relationship milestone, because it's a marriage equivalent or happens at marriage? (You can just handwave that poly marriage is a thing for the OT3.) For the second tag, what caused it, how did it happen by accident, do they try to break it and can they or not? (I'm fine either way, I just want it to definitely bring them closer and change their relationship/make them see one another and their relationship in a new light!) Was it maybe something that they were trying to steal that, whoops, it did this to them somehow? Or was it done to them by another villain or even as a legal punishment/attempt to make them go straight? Finally, what symptoms come with soulbonds? A telepathic bond, an empathic bond, shared dreams, shared sensations, a need to be in proximity to one another, a need to touch, a need to have sex? I am good for anything there!

  • ALL: Characters pretend to be a couple/married so often that they catch feelings
Listen, with all the disguises and roles and undercover stuff they do in canon, I couldn't resist this! It's practically cheating. You could easily set this AU pre-canon, during canon, or post-canon. Do Quentin and Phineas do it quite a bit during jobs with Chameleon? Do all three of them trade off pretending to be a couple? Have they ever all three pretended to be a triad? For the OT3, does one realize his feelings by watching the other two pretend to be a couple and both feeling fond about it and wishing he was also involved? For Quentin/Phineas, does is one of them pretending to be a couple/married with Chameleon for once and the other abruptly realizes he actually wants to be with the other for real? Or do they realize their feelings while undercover as a couple and talk after, and/or while pretending to be together do they get carried away? Or after pretending to be married one time do they have a "honeymoon," involving just the two of them or all three? There's a ton you could do with this and I am so into all of it, go nuts and I'll love it SO MUCH.

  • All: Hanahaki Disease AU
Okay, I have a real soft spot for hanahaki. Is it a known thing in the universe, a new disease, something common or rare, or does one or both of them get affected by someone's superpower or magic or some magical/alien artifact or alien tech? If either/both/any of them have it, does it take them any time to confess it? Do they worry about the potential guilt element? Is it a mutual thing or does it make them reassess how they feel for one another? Did the person (or people) who has it even realize they were in love before they started coughing up petals/flowers? For the OT3, does whoever has it realize they have it for both of the others at first? Hell, if just Quentin/Phineas, you could even go with one or both of them having hanahaki for Chameleon at first and then catching feelings for one another instead and being cured when they confess to each other, or thinking they have it for Chameleon but it turns out not. I prefer if there's no surgical option to just remove the disease and the feelings, but other than that, so long as none of them die and the ship in question ends up together, go nuts!

  • ALL: heist-style story but fantasy setting
  • ALL: In-universe private investigators AU
Okay, for the first tag, this can be a "Chameleon-level" criminal heist or a supervillain-level heist, either done with the Sinister Six (Chameleon included or not), or just by the three of them, or just by Quentin and Phineas! Is Spider-Man still trying to stop them? In this fantasy setting are they still using tech just like in canon or do they, like, have actual magic and/or aren't human? Or magitech? For the second tag, well, I almost think of PIs as the other side of the coin from the kind of criminals these characters are. What are they investigating? Are they trying to just crack a case or trying to track down someone or even rescue someone? The immense skills they put towards crime in-series could make for some really amazing private investigation undercover work! Do they have their own investigation agency, either Quentin and Phineas alone or all three of them? Or if Quentin/Phineas are they initially rivals? For either ship, is one initially a civilian who needs rescued or comes in asking for help and then winds up joining/partnering up with the other(s) in the end? You could even go full noir AU! You could do a lot of stuff here and I'd love it all.

  • ALL: Pokemon Snap AU
  • ALL: Pokemon Trainer AU
I just love Pokemon AUs and I COULD NOT resist a Pokemon Snap AU specifically either! Mostly because of how in Persona, Phineas took pictures of Spider-Man with those cool goggles to send to the Daily Bugle. So for the Pokemon Snap tag, maybe Phineas is working for/with a Pokemon researcher (Beck and/or Chameleon or someone else?) by going out and taking photos, is one himself, or is independent (well, with Chameleon and/or Beck) sending researchers their findings? Instead or as well, is are either/both/any of them a part of some team that Makes Trouble? And I know the tag says Pokemon Trainer AU specifically, and I'd be happy to see them both/all (and other characters) as Pokemon trainers, but I'd be equally happy to see them as scientists, engineers, Professors, making stuff like Silph Co. does, or maybe members of some Bad Team or just making trouble independently. Feel free to give them any sort of Pokemon, but I can easily imagine Tinkerer having things that could be related to making tech stuff (so like, Electric, Steel, Fire types, ones like Porygon, etc.), Mysterio having Psychic or Ghost or Dark types (or "fakes" like Hawlucha), and/or Chameleon having "mimics" and Shapeshifters like Ditto, Kecleon, Smeargle, etc. Go with whatever Pokemon you like, though; I am not married to any of those ideas!

  • ALL: Poly Marriage
You could probably read this two ways! One, an AU where they're an established poly marriage by the start of the series, which honestly I could see and I'm here for! Two, an AU where poly marriages are possible/commonly accepted and they wind up either engaged or married by the end. This prompt obviously works best for Beck/Chameleon/Mason, but honestly, if you can think of a way to make it work for just Quentin/Phineas that is also fine! I don't have as much to say about this one but believe me, I am a sucker for both established marriage stuff and also engagements and weddings and shit, just give me any/all of it and I'll be super happy.

  • All: Post-Apocalypse
  • All: Zombie Apocalypse
Apocalypse-related stuff is always a draw for me with superhero/supervillain and similar canons because they're people who seem at least somewhat more suited to surviving than the majority of civilians! And with criminals and supervillains specifically I also like the added element of an apocalypse totally throwing off their plans and putting things into a different perspective for them, maybe even leading to them trying to help some people. A zombie apocalypse could be really fun, going horror story but with characters who really are better-equipped to deal with it. Do they fight well, go to ground well, or both? (Probably both, with these characters.) For any other apocalypse, I'd prefer to avoid any kind of (realistic) sickness, but anything else goes, really: Zombies, other monsters, the Shimmer, a Slow Apocalypse, a Mad Max-ish feeling setting, a sort of Fallout post-apocalypse, a bunch of people just disappearing, a robot uprising, kaiju, aliens, meteors, some other sort of natural disasters... Them having to deal with what's happening in the moment would be great, but post-apocalypse stuff would also be great! You could have them dealing with things post-apocalypse once it all settles down or even just starts to settle down from the inciting incident, maybe trying to re-build their lives or even repair/make a new a society, or you could even just AU them to have been born in a post-apocalyptic world. I'm here for any of it! (I'd prefer none of the characters I've requested for this canon, Electro, or Spider-Man get turned or killed, except Chameleon is okay... Other than that go nuts!)

  • ALL: Soulmate-Identifying Timers AU
This is just one of my favorite soulmate indicators, though you're welcome to use others! For this particular one, though, there are two elements about it I really love. One is the anticipation and potential nerves of seeing your soulmate timer counting down and knowing it's happening incredibly soon. The other is, in a situation where you have more than one soulmate, your timer counting down until you meet each other and this is your soulmate... and then after flashing 0:00 for a few moments, you both notice that both of your soulmate timers have started up again counting down from a new number, either the same one or different ones. When it comes to Chameleon/Quentin and Chameleon/Phineas I imagine they meet professionally or they stumble in on Chameleon committing some crime and want to get involved; when it comes to Quentin/Phineas (either by themselves or as part of the OT3) I kind of like the idea that Chameleon introduces them to one another for professional purposes and when they all realize what's going on they're like "whoa, wait, holy shit" (or Chameleon realizes what's going to happen due to noticing the "coincidence" of their timers). But really anything works! And obviously this tag works best pre-canon and you're welcome to make up first meetings!

  • ALL: Villain turns good
Okay, this says villain singular, but I want to say that if one member of the ship reforms I'd love the other(s) to as well! That said, I could also enjoy a scenario where one (or two) reforms or retires but doesn't at all mind that the other one (or two) are still doing their criminal thing. If Mysterio becomes a superhero, does he look the other way for what Chameleon and/or the Tinkerer do? If the Tinkerer stops creating things for supervillains and ganglords, does he still listen amused to Mysterio recounting the stuff the Sinister Six gets up to or ask Chameleon about his recent jobs? If Chameleon retires is he still 100% fond and encouraging about what the other two choose to do with their lives? I will say that if it's just Quentin/Phineas you could have the villain in question be Chameleon, if he became a superhero I could imagine it feeling kind of odd, even uncomfortable, to them to have him against them. I wouldn't mind that being a thing. But I really do like both/all of them retiring or reforming or being totally fine and fond if the other(s) doesn't. I feel like they're all just in this for the fun and the love of it, anyway!

  • ALL: Weird West AU
For a Weird West AU, I can imagine it being basically like canon except instead of being set in New York City it's set in the Wild West or even a Trigun-y sort of setting (whether still in [handwavey] New York City/fantasy NYC or not). Since it's Weird West they could even still have a similar level of tech and stuff, and powers, and some characters could even still be supervillains, but giving it a bit of a cowboy/outlaw/scofflaw feel could be fun! (Giving the Sinister Six some Gung Ho Guns energy could also be fun, or just having Chameleon and co. being thieves and outlaws...) I don't have as much to say about this one, but seriously, playing with either ship in this kind of setting change AU just in general would be great!

Canon-Specific DNWs

  • any of the three, or really any of the Sinister Six, being presented as irredeemably crazy/evil
  • any of these three or any of the Sinister Six betraying each other, including them turning on Ock or Ock on them (Shocker not included, he's an Enforcer first and foremost, he was just on loan)
  • Electro being referred to as anything other than Electro if he shows up/is mentioned
Canon-Specific Likes

  • noncanon background pairings I actually enjoy if they happen to come up: Doctor Octopus/Vulture(/Electro), Sandman/Rhino
  • generally I like Sinister Six poly even if it's not the focus, actually, if the Sinister Six are included
  • nicknames! pet names! I count Chameleon's habit of referring to literally everyone by surname as this tbh, I like that he calls these two Beck and Mason, and that they call him Chameleon as that seems to be how he wants to be known. I like Electro's habit of calling Doctor Octopus "Doc" and Vulture "Vulch"; if he shows up in the fic, maybe he calls them "Mysty" and/or "Tink"? (If so I'd rather they like it than hate it.) I would love them calling each other endearments, them calling each other by surname as well but it still being intimate, them calling each other by supervillain name (teasingly? flirtatiously?), them calling each other by their first names or even Quentin calling Phineas "Phin" is fine. I love any type of this shit.
  • any type of h/c stuff is great but if you want to set anything after that bit in "Shear Strength" with the car accident and psychological torture, I would love to see Phineas get rescued, helped, comforted after that; feel free to go with other h/c scenarios though, they are ALL excellent, any type of job or situation going wrong and one or both getting hurt or put in danger!
  • if you're interested, I like trans headcanons for any/all of these characters! I like the idea of Phineas as a trans man (though nonbinary or trans woman are acceptable), and I could see Quentin as anything really, and I especially like nonbinary for Chameleon. trans headcanons for any other Sinister Six if they show up are also 100% good; I would prefer Electro as a trans woman or nonbinary if you write that character as trans, but anything goes for all the rest of them! and of course trans headcanons aren't obligatory!

Vampire Cleanup Department (2017)
Yip Chi Chau/Yeung Chung

Vampire Cleanup Department is a Hong Kong comedy-horror-romance movie that came out four years ago and short version: The titular VCD is a secret government-created agency that disguises themselves as cleaners but really go around using talismans and other magical items to hunt down and destroy vampires, specifically jiangshi (which means they hop around with their arms outstretched, and this is by turns played as creepy, funny, and cute). But when the main character Tim Cheung joins up after being bitten by a vampire and not turning, he finds out that his dead parents used to work for the VCD until a mission went terribly wrong, and accidentally winds up bonding with a vampire named Summer who starts changing and gaining more human emotions and mentality after biting him. He trains with the VCD while keeping the fact that he didn't actually destroy her when he was supposed to a secret.

I am here for different characters, however! And oh man I am so into them. Yip Chi Chau is Tim's "master," the ~40s-ish combat expert of the VCD who trains Tim in how to fight vampires; he knew Tim's parents and was close friends with his father, Yat Lung Cheung, and promised them that he'd take care of Tim as they were dying. Yeung Chung, or "Uncle Chung," is an older man in his 70s who's the director of the VCD and their "technical support" and a more openly kindly figure.

Where Chau is an incredibly skilled fighter and trainer, Chung is definitely not a combatant... but he is still brave enough to go into the field, and to step in to help people when they're in trouble, and he's great at directing the others during a fight. Where Chau is closed-off and hot-headed, Chung is calm, amiable, and understanding, good at being diplomatic when it's needed (and at distracting people so the others can work)... and also good at calming Chau down and redirecting him. They've worked together for decades, and despite what Chung says multiple times to Chau about training new blood so that they can eventually retire, neither of them seems to be willing to just quit. They know each other incredibly well ("Have I ever misjudged anyone? And you... never mean what you say."), Chau saved Chung and a rookie police officer in the very first scene (while Chung called for his help), when Tim was in trouble Chung called Chau back from a chase...

And in a moment that really got me, when Tim's "final test" went wrong and Chung tried to step in to help him against the vampire that was trying to kill him. Summer showed up to help as well and accidentally flung both the vampire and Chung through a table, and Chau reacted with such immediate alarm to kill the vampire before it could attack Chung! Chung was hurt and needed medical attention, and with Chung hurt and also not around to calm him down, Chau was furious with Tim. (I will also say that during that final test, Chau was acting like a nervous parent... while Chung sat on the couch and video taped everything, also like a parent, haha.)

Even when Tim is the one training the new recruits at the end of the movie, it's Chau and Chung standing on the walkway above watching and obviously still involved despite any talk of retirement, chatting and comfortable with one another. I just really love their shared history, how obvious it is that Chau cares deeply about certain people -- Chung, Tim, and Tim's father in the past -- despite him not saying it or being touchy-feely, and how comfortable with one another they are and how well they work together and know one another as people.

  • Vampire Cleanup Department: Chau was not cured; survives as a good vampire
Ha ha okay hitting you with the spoilery tags right out the gate. There are other things you can do for an alternate ending, obviously, but! When I watched the movie, the FIRST THING I thought when Chau got bitten was that he was going to wind up a "human" jiangshi like Summer and stay on with the VCD as a vampire, having realized/learned that Tim was right. When it showed him alive up on the catwalk I thought for sure that's what happened until Chung brought up the vaccine! And, I'll be real, I like the idea of Chau becoming a vampire much better. Is he also going through Summer's process of re-learning how to walk normally or has he gotten back to normal (or almost normal) in that regard? Can he speak again or is he potentially permanently mute? Is he solely eating pig (or duck) blood curd or does he sometimes drink someone's blood (without biting)? Does Chung sometimes find ways to share his blood? You could also have Chung have gotten bitten instead, if you prefer, either becoming a vampire or cured, with how close he got to death maybe shaking Chau up. Or have the ending be almost the same but have Summer survive and join the VCD and they all just have to get used to that idea!

  • ALL: Animorphs AU
  • ALL: Changeling: The Lost AU
  • All: Costumed Vigilante AU
  • ALL: Superheroes/Superpowers
These are just the tags that totally change what the VCD is. A lot of them are self-explanatory! In an Animorphs AU, they'd probably be even more secretive and fighting against the Yeerks; in a costumed vigilante/superheroes/superpowers AU, they may or may not have powers (and I'd love to see what powers or tech you come up with!) and they might be fighting crime, or supervillains, or maybe even still fighting vampires! For a Changeling: The Lost AU, though, there's a lot of different ways you can play with that. Is the VCD a motley, not fighting but instead banding together to try to recover from their durances? Or are they the equivalent of the West/Summer/Autumn Court, or a subset of such, willing to take the fight to, if not the Gentry themselves, then the loyalists, privateers, bridge burners, soulless, mad, fetches, monsters in the Hedge, and/or even the Banished? Was Chau watching over Tim and managed to rescue him but not before he'd already been taken and changed? I'd love to see what kiths and seemings you give the characters; I don't have any preferences, though I'm far more familiar with 1st edition than 2nd edition!

  • ALL: Being in a time loop together leads to getting together
  • All: Soulbond - Accidental/Involuntary
  • All: Hanahaki Disease AU
This set of tags is just "like canon, except weird stuff that we didn't see any hint of in canon turns out to be possible." They deal with solely vampires in the movie, but that does mean they deal with supernatural stuff in general; is there some different creature or magic or artifact that can cause any of these things, or is this an AU where they're common/known? (Does Priest Ginger maybe have any ideas/answers?) How do they break the time loop, and is it the entire VCD that's part of it, or just some of them, or just the two of them? Is the soulbond possible to break or not, and what symptoms come with it? A telepathic bond, an empathic bond, shared dreams, shared sensations, a need to be in proximity to one another, a need to touch, a need to have sex? I am good for anything there! Finally, for hanahaki, I feel like it might be Chung who has feelings for Chau (was Chau formerly in love with Tim's father, Yat Lung Cheung, before he died?), but it could work the other way around as well (maybe Chau unexpectedly develops feelings and tries to hide it but Chung can read him really well?). I prefer if there's no surgical option (though maybe some traditional/magical treatments that might ease it or slow it down or be meant to cure it), but as long as no one actually dies I'm good!

  • ALL: Canon setting has Silent Hill style Otherworld
  • ALL: Snowed in at a Haunted Hotel
  • All: Zombies Without An Apocalypse
  • Crossover: The Shimmer (Annihilation film) appears in another canon’s setting
Another "like canon but with more weird stuff" set of tags, but these ones change things up a little more significantly, IMO! Whether the Otherworld or the zombies have been there all along or show up new... Well, Silent Hill might be more dangerous and nerve-wracking to deal with, honestly, they might just have a handle on disposing of zombies since they're used to vampires! The Shimmer showing up suddenly and unexpectedly would throw everything completely off-kilter but they might have more of an idea of how to handle themselves than most people! For "Snowed in at a Haunted Hotel," is this an AU where they know ghosts exist and are maybe there to deal with one, or is it unexpected and maybe they're there to deal with a vampire but it turns out ghosts?

  • ALL: In-universe coffeeshop AU
  • ALL: Weird West AU
Tags that cover much more minor changes, these also change what the VCD is like but in a different way, imo. For an in-universe coffeeshop AU... well, I imagine it's just a case where their "cover" is pretending to run a coffeeshop rather than pretending to be sanitation workers. It'd give Chung an excuse to offer more customers memory-erasing "calming tea" and maybe Tim has some metaphors that aren't related to garbage! And for a Weird West AU, I can imagine it being basically like canon except instead of being set in Hong Kong it's set in a Wild West or even Trigun-y sort of setting (but still in [handwavey] Hong Kong/fantasy Hong Kong rather than America), and still with jiangshi but with more of a samurai-cowboy-mixture feel!

  • All: Post-Apocalypse
Simple tag but there's a lot you can do with this. Obviously, vampires might have caused the apocalypse, but it could have been anything really. Zombies, the Shimmer, a Slow Apocalypse, a Mad Max-ish feeling setting, a sort of Hong Kong Fallout post-apocalypse, a bunch of people just disappearing, a robot uprising, kaiju, aliens, meteors, some other sort of natural disasters... Whatever it is, I feel like the VCD would be pretty suited to survive a lot of stuff! And with post-apocalypse rather than just apocalypse-apocalypse, maybe things have settled down so that they're trying to rebuild a calmer life for themselves?

  • ALL: Vampires Are Known and are a Big Ticket Political Issue
Okay, this one's cheating a little because you could basically call this "what happened at the end of the movie." But that might have been a smaller-scale Vampires Are Known event, whereas a bigger one could really switch up a lot and could even come earlier in the movie's timeline or beforehand! For example, if this was a big ticket political issue at the time, would Inspector Chu have been even more intent on finding a cure? Or would his department have taken a different approach and been pressuring the VCD to take in a vampire member, with them (especially Chau) arguing that it was impossible to do so because they're all monsters, until Summer comes into the picture and they uneasily bring her in as part of the group? Or does the political stuff just put more pressure on the VCD to take care of things? Or switch up the landscape enough that a vaccine wasn't on anyone's priority list for whatever reason so Chau became a (good) vampire? (See my first set of tags!) There could be a lot of fun ways to play with this one imo, have fun with it.

Canon-Specific DNWs

  • none!
Canon-Specific Likes

  • noncanon background pairings I actually enjoy if they happen to come up: Ginger/Kui(/M), Tim/Winter
  • I am also totally open to Chau having been in love with Yat Lung Cheung before he died
  • also feel free to handwave Summer surviving if you like! that can be a change to literally any AU and I'm fine with it.
  • nicknames! pet names! names in general! they seem to refer to one another as Chau and Chung (or sometimes, semi-sarcastically, "Uncle" Chung). do they always stick to that however close they are? do they ever call one another by first name, or shift over to doing so? does Chau ever call him Old Chung or old man/grandpa in the somewhat disparaging (but still fond) sense? does Chung ever call Chau by anything like Old Chau, Young Chau, Young Chi (or Ā-chi)? or does either absently or purposefully get affectionate, calling the other something like dear/darling or old man (in the boyfriend/husband sense...) or even one of the endearment forms of silly/fool/dummy/idiot? does Chung ever call Chau Master/Sifu like Tim does, just to refer to him as Tim's master, and does it hit different coming from Chung than when Tim calls him that? seriously, I love any type of this shit, go nuts!
  • if you're interested, I could like trans headcanons for either of these characters. for Chung I most like the idea of trans man, but nonbinary is also good, just not trans woman. for Chau anything goes, though, and anything is fine for any of the other characters as well! and of course trans headcanons aren't obligatory.
